Main function of the job
To support Debt Finance Directors and Vice Presidents in the origination and transaction of mid/large market debt finance deals in a dynamic and highly competitive market place;
Optimise the level of returns recognising the need to balance return with credit risk considerations.
Main duties and responsibilities
Business Development - 20%
- Support Debt Finance Directors and Vice Presidents in working closely with Coverage to originate deal opportunities by undertaking market research and preparing presentations/pitchbooks, maintaining databases and participate in the calling programme on KBIs (external internal) and clients (existing and target).
- Operate in a professional manner to ensure that KBI's are keen to return with repeat business.
- Support presentations to new clients in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of their requirements, understanding of their business and competency to deliver a solution.
- Work with Credit and other specialist product areas to offer clients a comprehensive and competitive package to meet their requirements.
Deal transaction - 70%
- Along with the Director/Vice President, review business plans, prepare credit applications, complete analysis of financial models using the Debt Finance models and undertake a rigorous review of the target business, including as applicable legal, financial, environmental, management, commercial and market due diligence.
- Attendance at Credit Committees.
- Assist with the completion of LCC papers, in particular the debt pricing element and attend committee as required.
- Working closely as a part of the deal team, including early engagement with both Transaction Management/Legal and Syndicate to ensure delivery of an appropriate on market solution to the client, at the same time providing acceptable returns/protections for the Bank.
- Contribute to the structuring of a solution for the client and work closely with Transaction Management and Legal to assist in the preparation of detailed Outline Terms.
Governance / Personal Development / Administration - 10%
- Be fully aware and compliant with all governance issues affecting Debt Finance
- Ensure quality of data within our systems is robust
- Prepare a Personal Development action plan and action - seeking support from Performance Manager and others
- Attend team meetings on a regular basis to maintain dialogue / sharing of information to ensure up to date knowledge of market place, business development activity / initiatives, competitors and people issues etc.
- Support other AVP's in identifying strengths and weakness in their own skills and attributes.

Knowledge of the Bank's products, services and policies and/or other specialist knowledge required to undertake the role: -
- Good knowledge of the products and services available to Debt Finance clients across Barclays.
- An ability to identify opportunities where liaison with product specialists across the Group would produce a multi-product integrated solution for the client.
- Good understanding of policy and strategy within the Group as they relate to demands of the client base.
