Assistant Vice President/Vice President, Project Manager, Equities recruitment

Position summary

Markit has a requirement for an experienced project manager to join an expanding team of 40+ engineers, running a wide variety of projects across the DIME (Equities) Change Programme.

The candidate will report to the Functional Architect in planning and scheduling, resource management, senior stakeholder reporting, and inception and application of project management process across the programme group, in-line with broader corporate strategy and standards.

After orientation, the candidate will also be responsible for managing the delivery of specific projects within the group, and is expected to satisfy the project management role for initiatives of increasing size and complexity as the team continues to grow and evolve. In this capacity, the project manager will be responsible for the production of products of a high quality within the agreed constraints of time and cost, and will be responsible for ensuring that deliveries are capable of generating expected benefits for the organization.

In executing this role, the project manager will be supported by the Markit cross-corporate Project Management and Business Analysis function, providing global support in delivery, best practice and corporate direction and standards.


Duties accountabilities

For the DIME (Equities) Group:

• Support the Head of Technology, Functional Architect, Product and Operations management in managing and controlling a wide variety of project activity across the Equities Change Programme;

• Prepare and execute on senior stakeholder reporting and communication needs;

• Maintain and balance the resourcing schedule for in-flight and planned project work;

• Maintain and provide an ongoing risk management capability for the group;

• Prepare and maintain business case and project initiation materials, including the ongoing project pipeline;

• Capture and consolidate project metrics, and implement and leverage KPIs across the group, to assist in ongoing planning and continuous improvement;

• Prepare End Project and Lessons Learned reports, to assist in ongoing planning and continuous improvement;

• Support and review the work of other project managers within the Equities group, in applying best practice and standardized process where appropriate;

• Support the Head of Technology and Functional Architect in Change Management activity;

• Be flexible in dealing with large waterfall, agile, and RAD deliveries as required by the needs of the project in question;

• Co-ordinate release window activity between various impacted groups and stakeholders;

For Specific Projects allocated:

• Take the role of project manager/business analyst for specific assigned projects, in addition to the group level responsibilities as described above;

• Prepare project Initiation and Business Case documentation;

• Appropriately staff and prioritize project work, taking day to day control of a team of assigned engineers and analysts;

• Prepare functional system specifications, execution plans, monitor, control and report on project progress, risks and issues;

• Manage the project change control process;

• Deliver project output to a high quality, and within agreed timelines and cost boundaries;

• Ensure that project output is suitably aligned with business need, and that all necessary co-ordination for successful business and technical implementation is undertaken.

 

Business competencies Education and experience

• A strong Bachelor’s degree in the field of technology, finance or project management is required;

• Experience in a role as a hand-on Project Manager must be shown, particularly with respect to estimation and planning;

• A thorough understanding of the software development life-cycle must be shown, across a variety of different delivery methodologies;

• Qualifications under APM, PMI or PRINCE2 are desired, but are not explicitly necessary in order to apply for the role.

Commercial awareness

• Experience in the financial markets (particularly Equities) is desired, but is not explicitly necessary in order to apply for the role;

• An understanding of general financial terms and principals is required for the role
