Assistant/Associate Professor of Educational Leadership Job in Gorham 04038, Maine US

The University of Southern Maine’s School of Education and Human Development is committed to providing quality educational and professional development opportunities to prospective and current school leaders.  The Educational Leadership Department is currently engaged in mounting a collaborative Ph.D. with the Muskie School of Public Policy. At present, the department offers two master’s degrees. The M.S.Ed: Educational Leadership leads to certifications as a building principal, curriculum coordinator, or special education director. The M.S.Ed: Professional Educator is designed for practicing educators who want to increase their knowledge, deepen their practice, and develop teacher leadership skills. In addition, the department offers three certificate programs and a certificate of advanced study. You may be required to use distance education or other alternative delivery systems and to teach evening courses to include teaching at any of the three geographical locations of our campus.

 

We are seeking an individual who is committed to developing new kinds of leadership in schools and to contributing to education in Maine.  Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in principal and teacher leadership at the masters and doctoral levels, supervision of internships at the masters level, and doctoral level supervision of dissertation research.  In addition, the position requires advising graduate students, active engagement in scholarship and research, and professional service at the department, college, university, regional, and state levels. The position offers opportunities for work in off-campus programs, online/blended courses, and university-school-community partnerships (particularly with the Southern Maine Partnership).

 

Recent experience in leadership roles in public schools and interest in taking an active role in K-12 school improvement efforts are required. A doctorate in Education Administration/Instructional Leadership, by time of appointment, is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated collaborative leadership, preferably at the building level, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity for all learners, and an understanding of the challenges that school leaders face today. Research, publication record, and university teaching experience are highly desired.
