Associate – Healthcare Consulting Start-up recruitment

Founded in 2011 by two professionals with a decade-long track record of producing unbiased research and diligence for investment managers within the healthcare policy niche. The Founders of the firm are well known and respected within the upper echelons of the buy-side community allowing the firm to attract high caliber funds to its blue-chip roster of clients, despite its relative youth as a firm.

The company is a premium provider of strategic analysis of the ever evolving Washington healthcare landscape, handicapping regulatory and legislative catalysts for investors. Our ability to see trends ahead of others and to help sophisticated hedge funds, mutual funds and private equity firms discern and work around the government risk component in their portfolios provides this discerning client base an edge in strategy and portfolio implementation.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with an investment banking or institutional (“sell-side”) research or sales background to get involved with a rapidly growing and well respected team on the ground floor, and become a “jack-of-all-trades”, helping with diligence on research calls, start-up operational tasks, and if the candidate proves capable and has an interest in front-line client management – the opportunity to get involved in that down the road.

This role allows the candidate to get deeply involved in the day-to-day of both running a successful business and learning about Washington DC’s policy arcs by researching and publishing reports. This is the right role for a person who wants to make a mark within a fast evolving and growing field, at a company whose founders have a proven track record of successfully tracking and handicapping key legislative and regulatory healthcare catalysts, the sector of the economy with the most regular government involvement.

Responsibilities:

Research:

• Learn regulatory and legislative issues surrounding healthcare policy (e.g. “Obamacare”, Medicare reimbursement, Managed Care, etc);

• Assist the DC-based policy team in background and industry research for reports. Edit and fact-check before publication;

• Aid in publishing notes and emails around key legislative issues to be distributed to clients;

• Assist with client-generated research requests and diligence.

Marketing:

• Spearhead investor trips to DC: identifying catalysts, potential meetings and providing discussion topics as well as managing logistics around the trip;

• Potential to lead a strategic marketing effort around company website and branding;

• Create marketing materials, written and otherwise.

Operations:

• Manage calendars and alert team members of upcoming deadlines and catalysts;

• Assist in operational tasks necessary for smooth functioning of a start-up, both high and low level.

Qualifications:

• 2-5 years work experience, either in investment banking or institutional research or sales. Healthcare services sector coverage a big plus;

• Exceptionally strong writing and editing skills;

• Superior, verifiable track record of professional performance and strong work ethic;

• Ability to multi-task effectively, juggling multiple and competing tasks;

• High level of attention to detail and organization;

• Desire to help grow a business from the ground floor

• Interest or prior experience in Washington DC market moving issues also a big plus;

Disqualifications:

• Anyone lazy and/or who wants to coast as this is not a large beauracracy and so lack of professional spirit and drive will be easy to discern;

• Anyone who has no real interest in a start-up environment and is just looking for any job. This will come out in the interview process and so we ask that you don’t waste our time;

The Founders and staff are extremely passionate about what we are building and we are looking for similarly minded folks who want to learn, grow and like what they do each day.
