ASSOCIATE –FINANCIAL REPORTING recruitment

The Associate will be responsible for processing and recording daily transaction activity for the General Operating Account (“GOA”) and the University’s Master Trust portfolio. The GOA consists of the general funds of the University’s central bank. The Master Trust portfolio is a set of diverse plan assets held by the University’s defined benefit plans. Success in this role requires working closely with various departments within the Company and the University to manage daily trade entry, process cash movements and examine valuation inputs related to each portfolio. Additionally, the associate will be responsible for executing the accounting period close of the Master Trust portfolio on a monthly basis, with additional emphasis on the semi-annual reporting periods for the Trust’s calendar and reporting year-ends. Further, this individual will assist in the monthly accounting period close of the General Operating Account.   In addition, the associate will be responsible for the reconciliation of accounting data across company systems to ensure trade execution accuracy and proper recording of all transactions. This individual will also assist with the coordination of the annual financial statement audits of the General Investment Account and the Master Trust, including the compilation of any relevant audit deliverables.

An important component of this position is supporting the needs of the University and the Company’s investment professionals. This is achieved by maintaining continuous communication and providing relevant and timely financial information. The individual will assist in the compilation of financial and ad hoc reporting for the investment professionals, and Harvard University’s Financial Administration and Treasury Departments. The position requires a general understanding of financial accounting principles and extreme attention to detail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain the integrity of portfolio accounting systems and general ledger records, ensuring proper reconciliation

• Initiate and record daily cash movements for the General Operating Account and Master Trust Accounts

• Compile and analyze monthly statements and ensure proper input and trade processing

• Verify that cash /valuation discrepancies are researched/resolved and reconciliation reports are reviewed daily

• Compile and analyze periodic financial and ad hoc reports for senior management review

• Responsible for periodic closing of the Master Trust general ledger and assist with the General Operating Account close

• Assist in the coordination of the year-end audit and the preparation of audit deliverables for Master Trust

• Perform analytical review of accounting data on an as-needed basis

• Assist in the documentation/ testing of entity-wide internal controls

• Participate in special projects and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS Accounting

• Minimum of 2-3 years relevant accounting experience, preferably with “Big 4” public accounting firms; bookkeeping/general ledger experience a plus

• Knowledge and demonstrated interest of financial markets and products; investment-related accounting experience a plus

• Experience with Great Plains general ledger, Sungard VPM, and/or Sungard Investran a plus

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Must be extremely detail oriented, communicate effectively, and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and self motivation

• Must be willing and able to adapt to changing priorities and deliverables
