Associate Accountant recruitment
Position Purpose
To be responsible for the accounting activities for the Trade Structured Finance (TSF) business. This includes regular review of accounting records, profit and loss statements, position reports, journalisation of activities, balance sheet and PL reconciliation between different systems, management and corporate reporting, statutory audit, and local and US tax reportings.
Principal Accountabilities
- 3% - To understand and ensure the compliance of Accounting Control for TSF activities.
- 15% - Review daily PL statements. Responsibility includes verification of PL and communication to management and traders on material fluctuations.
- 3% - Understand Revenue recognition issues relating to TSF business.
- 5% - Verification of positions in coordination with Operations.
- 20% - Journalise trading and admin activities, and month end accruals, ensure general ledger accurately reflect business activities.
- 10% - Prepare month end support schedules and any other TSF management reports in accordance to TSF global requirements. Close coordination with our HQ at Minneapolis TSF and corporate accounting team on issues relating to Asia business.
- 10% - Review of balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations to ensure all items are supported. Report major exceptions in a timely manner.
- 10% - Ensure accuracy in management and local regulatory reporting, meeting local and US Gaap and Tax requirements.
- 5% - Work closely with Cargill commodity BU accountants to ensure that accounting entries are correctly booked in non-TSF entities in an accurate and timely manner.
- 5% - Good working knowledge of operations activities to provide assistance and support in other areas as required.
- 5% - Assist in special projects as requested.
- 5% - Liaise with Corporate accounting and Auditors to complete statutory audits.
- 4% - Ensure that work processes and procedures are in compliance with Cargill and RMFS policies and standards.
Position Contacts / Challenges
Internal / External Contacts
- Operation and Accounting teams (Singapore and offshore) - Daily, to provide cross-support among team, communicate requirements and expectations, assist in resolution of issues and provide feedback, improve on work efficiencies.
- Accounting Manager - As required, To provide updates to manager and receive guidance or updates on biz.
- Controller - As required; to discuss issues, receive/provide input on procedural issues, training etc.
- Traders - As required, to resolve issues and keep them appraised of PL and accounting issues etc;
- Auditors and Tax consultants - As required; for statutory reporting.
- Corporate Tax/ Legal - as required; to access expertise / advise for resolution of issues;
- Other Business Units - obtain/provide information, resolve trade settlement/accounting issues, profit sharing.
- Treasury - funding, cash payments and receipts, interest allocation.
Challenges
- A thorough understanding of the business and admin / accounting procedures is essential to the success of this position. Development and improvement of work processes is a challenge.
- Effective communication and initiative to move issues forward are critical. Success of the incumbent will depend on his ability to be creative, and to demonstrate initiative in identifying problems and providing solutions;
- Managing multiple priorities, understanding risks involved and the ability to resolve and report to higher management, wherever necessary and critical;
- Transactions can be complicated. The biz is growing, with new structures and new geographies evolving at a fast pace.
Skills
- Accounting degree or an equivalent professional degree
- 1 year of accounting/audit experience.
- Good PC and spreadsheet skills
- Good organizational skills and is detail oriented
- Able to work with minimal supervision, strong self initiatives
- Flexible team player
- Good analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under time pressure
- Good verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively with people at all levels
