In January 2012, Chartis and SunAmerica Financial Group will form a significant new player in the benefits market by combining American General Life Companies' Benefit Solutions division with the Medical Excess and @Work groups from the Chartis Corporate Benefits division. The combined entity will target the employee and affinity group markets, and will serve as a one-stop solution for today's changing benefits marketplace for groups of all sizes. The product suite includes Life/ADD, Business Travel Accident, Universal and Term Life, dental, vision, limited healthcare, medical reimbursement, stop-loss, organ transplant, group hospital, group and personal disability, critical illness, accident and cancer insurance. This broad and diverse portfolio provides limitless opportunities to create flexible benefit offerings suitable for all sizes and budgets, and the combined underwriting, distribution and sales strengths of American General and Chartis will provide further strength and differentiation in the marketplace.

This position is in the Group Actuarial Valuation department of the newly combined benefits business, located in Neptune, NJ. It is initially focused on valuation for Chartis accident and health products, including ADD, Business Travel Accident, Cancer, Critical Illness, Dental, Vision and Excess Major Medical. Responsibilities include premium and claims data analysis, loss reserving and the calculation of active life reserves (ALR), reserve trend analysis, and working with internal and external auditors.

The ideal candidate will be an ASA or FSA, with at least 2 years of experience in loss reserving and the development of ALRs. The ability to work with large amounts of data across multiple systems is critical. Equally important is the ability to clearly communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate will also have superior technical skills in Excel, Access, and VBA.

Immediate Performance Objectives:
*Perform Stat and GAAP valuation for the Medical Excess and @Work business. *Evaluate valuation methodology for individual cancer block including Active Life Reserves. *Perform IBNR studies; develop and implement an enhanced IBNR method across short-term AH products such as Dental and Vision.

Additional Objectives:
*Take over valuation for Association excess major medical block. *Assist with the valuation for waiver of premium. *Perform experience analysis, and earnings analysis.

*Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field.
*Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society.
*2+ years of experience in loss reserving and active life reserves.
*Advanced oral and written communication skills
*Superior technical skills in Excel, Access, and VBA
*Ability to balance detail with higher level goals and objectives.
*Competent understanding of key insurance-related concepts, including group life and health products, reinsurance, and basic GAAP, Statutory, and tax accounting principles.
