Associate Banker, Early Transition Country (ETC) recruitment
Role Overview
The Associate Banker is sought to work in the EBRD office in Istanbul as part of the Istanbul Early Transition Country (ETC) Hub to support the development and preparation of projects in the agribusiness sector in countries covered by the Hub, namely Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and possibly Moldova and Belarus. The key focus will be on the credit and financial aspects of agribusiness project development and implementation with special responsibility for financial modelling and analysis. The Associate Banker will be expected to participate in all aspects of project development and implementation.
The EBRD Agribusiness team has more than 15 years of experience in over 350 transactions across our 30 countries of operation, which range from central Europe to central Asia. In 2004, the Early Transition Country initiative has been launched to better support the EBRD activities in the Caucasus and Central Asia. The ETC Istanbul Hub has been created in 2011 and is staffed with sector team bankers. The team is charged with the task of establishing a substantial portfolio supporting EBRD's objectives in the central Asia ETC countries. We seek a professional with the experience, capability and enthusiasm to become part of our growing activity in those countries.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
With supervision from senior team members, the Associate Banker will be capable of working throughout the whole life cycle of projects. This will be accomplished through marketing, project screening, origination, due diligence, negotiation, preparation and monitoring of projects. This will also include:
- Credit and financial aspects of project development, including financial analysis of projects and companies: data gathering, production of financial projections and cash-flow models
- Research, analysis and providing background information into companies or sectors
- Provide administrative and analytical support in specific areas of project monitoring, liaise with the Credit department, and other support units
- Draft specific assigned portions of Bank documents and correspondence
- Support business development efforts and attend meetings with clients alongside more senior bankers.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Good relevant degree from a leading university in the country of education (e.g. business administration, economics, finance)
- Minimum of 4 years for Associate Banker of relevant and commercial work experience (e.g. banking, finance, accounting, audit or project finance) gained from a major commercial/investment bank, equity fund, advisory services or corporate finance firm
- Credit analysis skills: ability to interpret accounts, understanding international accounting principles and practice of credit analysis
- Proven analytical skills; strong numerical and financial skills, with ability to interpret financial information and to design and use financial models
- Exposure to food, beverage, retail sectors as well as the knowledge of the regions will be an advantage
- Computer literacy, excellent spreadsheet skills
- Very good written and oral communication skills in English. Russian is preferable.
