Position Description
Background of CMD:
The Collateral Management Department is responsible for exposure monitoring of complex client trading strategies of multiple businesses at Morgan Stanley, including Prime Brokerage, Private Wealth Management and OTC Equity and Fixed Income Derivatives.

Collateral Management is a global group with offices in London, New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong and has a combined staff of approximately 100 individuals with 40 in London.

Job Description
There is currently a position available for an individual at the associate level, within the OTC collateral team. The successful candidate will be working in a challenging environment, covering day-to-day collateral processing and controls oversight.

Function / roles and responsibilities
The individual will be working within a growing team, currently 25, responsible for margining Institutional and Hedge Fund clients under the provisions of ISDA Credit Support documentation. The products supported are predominately Fixed Income and Equity derivatives, with some Repo and expansion into Commodities derivatives as well.

With increased product complexity and expanding volumes the collateral team faces a number of challenges in ensuring the scalability of the department’s functions whilst maintaining optimal control and efficiency. As such, in addition to the margining function there is continual focus on actively managing disputes and their reconciliation, maintaining an oversight of controls and ensuring an on-going review of the procedures and processes in place.

A core focus of management is ensuring that analysts and managers alike are collateral experts capable of engaging with business stakeholders on all aspects of the collateral function at their level. This is reflected in the scope of functions and responsibilities as well as the skill sets required.

This role can be broken down into:

• Reviewing derivative exposures ensuring requirements are correct and clients are called for collateral.
• Ensuring controls on collateral management process are monitored and exceptions resolved in a timely manner.
• Managing client relationships on a day-to-day basis providing service to hedge funds and financial institutions.
• Liaising with risk partners and financing desk on high value/high risk collateral moves.

The successful candidate will be required to gain an understanding of the broader responsibilities of collateral management with the potential of cross training across other teams.

Skills Required:
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent - analytical, financial or mathematically related subject favoured.
• Candidate will have proven experience with Fixed Income products and experience and insight into derivative products typically traded within an OTC Collateral environment
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, being able to communicate clearly and concisely, moderating style and delivery to suit different parties and media
• Candidate should be able to organise themselves efficiently, keep track of multiple outstanding items and meet tight deadlines
• Demonstration in their past work experience of robust analytical skills, high attention to detail and process improvement
• Candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to work either on their own initiative as well as be a solid team player
