Associate Consultant Analytical Scientist-Materials, Science Technology

The MST Analytical laboratories are responsible to provide analytical support to Lilly Manufacturing, primarily through the MST organization. This position is responsible for the development and/or utilization of methods to analyze in-process, active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug product samples. The chemist will interact closely with other chemists and may be an integral part of multidisciplinary teams that provide support for manufacturing investigations, quality control improvements, and product/process development or improvement projects.

KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:

·   Provide analytical support, project leadership, and/or technical direction as needed for short-term and long-term projects with Lilly Manufacturing, balancing priorities and communicating. Performs a majority of the laboratory work directly, but senior chemists also coordinate the work of other team members.

·   Utilize and/or develop bio-analytical methods/techniques to characterize proteins and biopharmaceutical products, including protein sequencing, AAA, LCMS, Capillary/Gel Electrophoresis, ELISA, and other techniques.

·   Write, review, and execute study protocols and technical reports according to the agreed upon project timeline. Independently design experiments, generate data, interpret results and document work. Balance needs/workload for multiple projects simultaneously.

·   Ensure compliance with applicable quality, environmental, and safety expectations. Provide leadership on continuous improvement in these areas.

·   Openly share technical knowledge and key learning. P3/P4 scientists also serve as a technical mentor/trainer to other group members.

·   Provide updates to supervision regarding progress and issues.

·   Contribute to external/internal scientific forums.

·   Maintain awareness of analytical sciences and pharmaceutical industry trends.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·   Education -B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field.

·   Strong oral and written communication skills.

·   Five or more years experience in a pharmaceutical analytical laboratory

·   In-depth understanding and extensive hands on experience with various mass spectrometers (e.g., linear ion trap, Q-TOF), for verification of protein mass and sequence, and identification of post-translational modifications and protein-related impurities/degradation products.

·   Experience in protein isolation techniques necessary for characterization of low-level impurities and degradation products.

·   Strong background in separations techniques (reversed phase, ion exchange, capillary electrophoresis, etc.), for analysis of highly complex samples

·   Experience working in a GMP laboratory is preferred.
