About the Job
Reporting to the Consumer Retail Segment Head with daily direction provided by industry segment junior banker(s), the Associate position is a key support position in the industry segment. The main focus of the position is accountability for the quality of both financial analysis and pitch books for the industry segment.
Associates in KBCM act as the primary day-to-day leaders for analytical support, including financial statement analysis and model development; valuation analysis; industry research; and the preparation of various presentations and documents including descriptive memoranda, management presentations, new business and other. Associates interact daily with other bankers and clients, prospective buyers/money sources, attorneys and accountants. Experienced Associates learn to play more of a VP role in helping to manage execution of deals and interface directly in presentation, negotiation, capital-raising and closing.
Essential Job Functions
Act as the Trusted Advisor for industry segment clients:
- Use robust processes to develop professional relationships with focus clients, targeted prospects, and centers of influence.
- Generate ideas and analytical materials in support of new client acquisition(s).
- Accountable for performing in accordance with the strategic direction and overall leadership of the industry segment including but not limited to: quality of both financial analysis and pitch books.
- Build trusted advisor relationship by establishing personal and institutional credibility with focus clients and targeted prospects.
- Accountable for effective project management: drive the process, effectively prioritize and allocate resources.
- Responsible for pitch book and presentation development; develop persuasive arguments based on the data gathered by analysts, both conceptually and through client presentations.
- Entry-level phase of prospecting for clients/cold calling and delivering sales presentations.
- Execute 1 Key by knowing the industry segments clients and markets as well as demonstrating teamwork among peers within the Institutional Bank and enterprise wide.
- Responsible for training new Associates and Analysts. Acts as a mentor.
- Maintain communications with team members and product partners.
- Work with corporate finance investment bankers and product partners on MA, strategic corporate finance, and capital raising transactions
- Generate ideas and analytical materials in support of new client meetings
- Perform financial modeling and valuation analyses on public and private companies: comparable company analysis, precedent transaction analysis, leveraged buy-out analysis and discounted cash flow analysis
- Develop marketing materials for topics such as company positioning, financing alternatives, and MA/Strategic alternatives
- Continually build knowledge and capabilities within the industry segment and stay abreast of competitive trends.
- Assist with attracting a quality workforce, i.e. college recruiting activities.
- Maintain required licensing.

Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree in Business (Accounting, Finance, Business Admin, Economics, etc.)
- Series 7 63 (within six months of employment)
- Strong quantitative skills, including financial modeling and financial statement analysis
- Quantitatively and financially-oriented, possessing the ability to succinctly express ideas
- Strong team player with a positive can-do attitude and desire to be part of a close-knit group operating in an intensive and challenging work environment
- Excellent organization, communication and research skills
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving ability
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
