Associate Counsel Job in Brooklyn, New York US
As Associate Counsel you will provide entry level legal support in the area of state regulatory law to the company’s New York electric and gas businesses.
· Provide legal support and advice to more senior lawyers within National Grid within area of specialism in order to meet and support business objectives.
· Provide co-ordination and oversight to department support staff in effecting necessary legal administration responsibilities.
· Perform research, writing, drafting and other routine legal tasks under the direct and regular supervision of a more experienced attorney in order to support the work of the department
· Exercise legal judgment to advise on decisions in support of more senior level attorneys to counsel management level clients.
· Research, collate and analyze legal information in order to support the department.
· Keep up to date with legal, market and regulatory developments in order to ensure the optimization of best practice for National Grid.
· Build upon legal skills and knowledge within own area of specialism in order to continually grow your personal contribution to the business.
· Undertake specific tasks of varying complexity in order to support colleagues in the design of legal solutions.
· Effectively supports more senior counsel on matters that have significant reputational and/or financial risk to the company
· Responsible for handling low to intermediate legal matters
Requirements:
· Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
· Admission to and in good standing with the New York state bar
· Demonstrates the ability to identify appropriate data source and check its accuracy and validity against pre-determined criteria.
· Knowledge and understanding of legislative/regulatory issues affecting the industry.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Exhibits high personal standards of commitment and integrity.
· Strong sense of team work; ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
