Associate Dean Associate Dean for Research

The College is seeking applications to fill the position of Associate Dean for Research by conducting an internal WVU search. The required attributes for this full-time administrative position are: 1) a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related field; 2) proven record of sustained success in research and research funding over a period of at least five years; 3) ability to provide leadership in overseeing and building College research programs; and 4) ability to support a college-wide mission in developing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research programs, intellectual property and economic development activities. Specific responsibilities include: Operate the College research office and maintain an information database to effectively support and report on College research programs; Work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, chairs and faculty, to promote the College vision for quality graduate education, including promoting and enhancing opportunities for undergraduate students in research; Develop and promote a college-wide vision for externally funded faculty research programs that support and enhance this vision; Organize and lead efforts to identify federal, state and industry research funding consistent with this College vision; Develop and oversee a College mentoring system to support faculty in the development of externally funded research; Provide leadership in developing multi- and inter-disciplinary faculty partnerships across departments and colleges; Work closely with faculty and WVU Technology Transfer Office to promote faculty intellectual property initiatives that support economic development; Work closely with the dean, associate deans, chairs, and faculty in all matters pertaining to research and intellectual property; Represent the College at pertinent research meetings internally and externally. The primary objective of this position is to provide service to College faculty in research, research program development, and intellectual property and commercialization activities. The incumbent must have a demonstrated record in research. Current activity in research funding, graduate student mentorship and/or research administration is desirable. This full time administrative position reports directly to the Dean, and typically will require the incumbent to have an assignment of 70-80% in research administration and 20-30% in maintaining their own research program/scholarly activities. Administrative experience commensurate with the job responsibilities is required. The position is a five-year administrative appointment as Associate Dean for Research renewable upon successful review.
