Associate Director, Control Assurance, Markets BORM
Macquarie Securities Group (MSG) is a global institutional securities house covering sales, research, ECM, execution and derivatives and delta one activities. MSG uses its research and risk management skills to develop equity-based solutions and services for clients internationally.
Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) provides a variety of services across the globe with an underlying specialisation in interest rate, commodity or foreign exchange related institutional trading, marketing, lending, clearing or platform provision.
The opportunity exists for an Associate Director to join our Sydney-based team, working in Markets BORM with responsibility Global Control Assurance Framework across the trading businesses of Macquarie, FICC and MSG
You will be responsible for:
- Ownership for the design and execution of the Global Control Assurance Framework across the trading businesses of Macquarie, FICC and MSG. This involves determining appropriate testing for the key trading risks, covering control design and control effectiveness. The purpose of this assurance being to ensure that key controls are operating effectively in order to minimise error, fraud or regulatory non-compliance.
- Management and oversight of the ongoing compliance with the Framework and the detailed assurance plan, including reporting.
- Updating the plan to reflect changes to key risks across the trading businesses.
- Managing and assisting ORM staff in the scoping, execution and post implementation review of pieces of control assurance work, across a global team.
- Work with the relevant support area ORM staff to contribute to control assurance work performed (given that Markets BORM have a front to back responsibility).
- Provide subject matter expertise in products and processes globally, across FICC and Equities products.
- More generally:
- To assist the businesses to adhere to the Bank wide Risk Management Framework including application of Bank wide Policies and input and analysis of operational incidents.
- To assist the businesses in obtaining approval for and implementing new activities and businesses in a controlled manner, including but not limited to the review of governance structures, product management and processes.
- To work with support areas such as compliance, finance, settlements, risk, IT in ensuring businesses are operating in a controlled manner.
- To increase awareness of operational risk across business staff.
- To conduct ad hoc investigations.
- To provide input into projects as required.
Key experience required
- End-to-end Financial Markets experience, including detailed knowledge of deal life cycle processes for a trading business
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to deal confidently with senior management
- Proactive in identifying and following up on anomalies / areas of concern
- Ability to deliver results within a deadline
- Pragmatic approach to operational control with an ability to balance risk and returns
- Chartered Accounting qualification, past auditing / operations experience / IT knowledge required.
