Job Description 

Position Summary:

The allocation function within Portfolio Management is responsible for the fair and equitable allocation of assets to over 100 unique portfolios as well as the management of derivative relationships to their underlying asset/liability risks.  This allocation team plays a key role in the investment process by ensuring that the investment targets established during the annual Asset Liability Management (ALM) planning process are met.  This is a unique opportunity to closely observe the various aspects of portfolio management, such as asset allocation, asset/liability management and risk management while participating in a critical role. Principle Responsibilities:

• Partner with Portfolio Managers and Asset Specialists to fairly and equitably allocate assets from a multitude of asset classes on a daily basis.

• Develop an understanding of the liability structure of MetLife’s portfolios, and ensure that the allocation logic is aimed at optimizing risk adjusted return and other prescribed strategies.

• Meet ALM objectives while remaining in compliance with internal investment guidelines, tax strategies and regulatory statutes, such as statutory and GAAP reporting and derivative use plans.  Deal with complex issues spanning the realm of regulatory, legal, and accounting.

• Develop relationships with Asset Originators to proactively understand deal pipeline and asset structures and proactively communicated issues to portfolio managers.

• Work with Portfolio Managers during their annual asset strategy sessions to develop and then maintain asset allocation prorates for non-liquid assets.  Update periodically, as deemed necessary.

• Help implement Derivatives Trade order Management System.

• Assist portfolio managers in derivative strategy and documentation to facilitate execution, reporting, and hedge effectiveness testing.

• Work closely with the Portfolio Managers, the Derivatives and Corporate Trading Desks, and Enterprise Risk Management to establish a link between the derivative and the underlying risk(s). Create and maintain the derivative/risk link in the Derivative Relationship Management System (DRMS) daily.

• Monitor derivative effectiveness and compliance testing, tracking, and reporting.

• Coordinate and monitor internal asset transfers ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.

• Identify and then work closely with IT to implement system enhancements.

• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for asset allocations and derivative relationship management.

Job Requirements

• MBA/CFA Preferred

• Self-starter with strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills

• Broad understanding of all asset sectors

• General understanding of asset / liability principals

• Experience with derivative products preferred

• Strong prioritization and project management skills

• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Power Point

• Familiarity with various investment related systems such as Charles River, Murex, Bloomberg, Yield Book, and DRMS

• 6+ years related Investments experience
