Associate Director – Insurance

The Associate Director will work with other staff at the supervisory authority to authorise applicant institutions and implement supervisory risk identification and mitigation programmes in respect of authorised insurance institutions (life and non-life), reinsurers and intermediaries, and will direct the production of supervisory work programmes.
Responsibilities:
- Identify risks to regulatory objectives and manage the implementation of supervisory risk identification and mitigation programmes in respect of authorised insurance institutions including (re)insurers and intermediaries
- Ensure that the on-going supervision of insurance institutions is handled with efficiency and that strong constructive relationships are developed with the senior management of the authorised insurance institutions
- Establish a pro-active, risk based supervisory approach to the mitigation of risks
- Resolve escalated issues and ensure the timely flow of management information internally
- Work closely with other Divisions to resolve issues arising from the insurance institutions he/she supervises
- Manage and meet performance as well as authorisation and supervision service standards
- Present recommendations to the Director and Managing Director for supervision issues and policy matters
- Manage any Senior Associates assigned to him/her, ensuring proper work allocation and supervision, and where necessary ensure that the skills and experience of any subordinates are developed
Requirements Experience:
- Extensive relevant experience authorising and/or supervising reinsurers as well as retail and commercial operations of general insurers and life insurers;
- Experience of supervision of Takaful (Sharia compliant) entities, intermediaries and financial advisers would be an advantage (but not essential);
- Graduate or post graduate qualifications in insurance, finance or accounting from recognized institutes or professional bodies;
- Ability to perform detailed analytical work using accounting information and prudential returns;
- Actuarial skills would be an advantage;
- Strong personal skills – people management, self-motivation and team player;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Knowledge of the Region would be an advantage, as would the ability to read and speak Arabic.
