The University of Massachusetts Amherst has an opening for an Associate Director of Gift Planning and is seeking a highly experienced, motivated and energetic individual to join its Development team as the campus prepares for a new comprehensive campaign. The ideal candidate will be well versed in the field of financial planning, wealth management, estate law, or gift planning. The Associate Director of Gift Planning is a senior fundraising officer responsible for establishing and implementing the strategic direction of gift planning programs with assigned liaison units and with individual prospects. Key responsibilities include building and enhancing relationships with gift planning prospects, both directly and indirectly through University fundraising colleagues, leveraging marketing, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of complex outright gifts, life-income gifts and estate gifts, and administering the gift planning program.

 

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Six or more years professional experience in a related field, such as financial planning, wealth management or estate law, or charitable fundraising experience at an educational institution or other nonprofit, with the majority of that time spent in charitable gift planning. Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental dimensions of financial and estate planning, wealth management and deferred giving. Demonstrated capacity to review legal documents (wills, trusts and their related accounting statements, deeds, IRA and insurance documents) from donors, lawyers and executors to identify essential criteria related to accepting and recognizing planned gifts. Demonstrated ability to relate well to and inspire the trust and confidence of older clients and their legal and financial advisors, as well as the trust and confidence of colleagues. Outstanding administrative and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability and willingness to travel.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced business degree. Familiarity with planned gift calculation software (such as PG Calc) and donor tracking software.
