Position Summary:

 Investments Overview

MetLife Investments is a premier insurance asset manager with breadth across various asset sectors and global markets, and strong asset-liability management capabilities. With a $450 billion combined domestic and international general account portfolio and a multi-billion dollar annual cash flow, Investments is an important contributor to MetLife’s financial performance.  The primary objective of Investments is to maximize MetLife’s long-term economic value by investing in assets that support the company’s liabilities and produce a consistent stream of operating earnings.

Portfolio Management Overview

MetLife Investments’ Portfolio Management Unit is responsible for managing MetLife’s General Account investment portfolios and provides a critical component of the asset-liability management process.  Investment portfolios support a wide variety of insurance and investment products sold by MetLife, such as traditional life insurance products, annuities and guaranteed investment contracts.  Although portfolios are primarily comprised of fixed income securities, they may also include real estate and other equity investments.  Portfolios are managed in a relative value framework, balancing both current income and total return needs.  Principle Responsibilities:

•Work with both Investments asset managers and the lines of business to assist the lines in achieving business objectives through active portfolio and asset-liability management.

•Translate business objectives into portfolio strategies.

•Understand assigned MetLife businesses, their products and the associated liability profiles.

•Identify business driven issues and initiatives. Work with senior business managers, to develop and manage projects to solve portfolio and risk management issues or seize earnings opportunities.

•Actively participate in the Company ALM management process.

•Assist in developing portfolios investment objectives and guidelines.

•Support new product development and inforce management.

•Understand risks, as well as the need/ability to hedge those risks.

•Understand product pricing and construct appropriate asset portfolios.

•Monitor portfolio ALM profile including scenario analysis, cash flows and stress testing.

•Understand the implications of the regulatory environment and statutory and GAAP accounting as they relate to portfolio strategy.

Job Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Investments or the lines of business.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities.

• Client management and business profitability focus.

• ALM and investment strategy experience is a plus.

• MBA, CFA and/or FSA preferred.
