Associate Director, Special Situations, Financial Control

A Product Control role exists within the Financial Control team in London, initially supporting the Special Situation Group EMEA and Global Structured Financing businesses.
This role gives the candidate exposure to a wide variety of financial products, in particular structured collateralised financing trades (TRS, repos, loans, SPEs) and well as vanilla rates products (swaps, futures) and credit products (bonds, CDS, CLNs).
The Financial Control team has responsibility and ultimate accountability for the FTB control environment and all business controlling activities. In particular, focussing on supervision control, managing the execution of shared services such as PL and B/S production/substantiation controlled under SLAs, stakeholder partnership, advisory and support activities, strategic planning and change management.
In this role, you will act as a point of contact between the Businesses and Financial Control in providing Finance related expertise by partnering with other Finance divisions (e.g. RCA, GCA, GT, GTA). On the business side, you will face off to the desk head and other experienced traders, as well as the COO. You will have frequent interaction with other control functions in particular Market and Credit Risk Control, Derivatives MO and Treasury.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
• Review and challenge daily PL produced by the Balance Sheet Revenue Controls (BSRC) teams, considering day 1 PL reporting rules and fair value reserves, liaising with desk and other departments on issues
• Chair weekly risk sensitivity based PL review meetings with Market Risk, BSRC and the Front Office and follow up on issues
• Represent Financial Control on various projects (e.g. regulatory, systems migration etc) to ensure all Product Control requirements and impacts are fully covered, liaising with CTB and IT as appropriate
• Produce monthly, quarterly and annual PL and B/S commentary to support the close. In addition perform analytical review to support sign-off for financial disclosures at quarter-ends.
• Support the monthly FC sign off in the SOCA (Sign off Check List) application by being accountable for the accuracy of PL and B/S and actively preparing for and participating in month end control review meetings with the BSRC (Balance Sheet and Revenue Controls team.
• Review of monthly Treasury cost reallocations via liaison with Treasury, COO and the business.
• Liaise with both internal and external audit teams in the satisfactory completion of their audits by providing information, explanations and insight
• Support ad hoc information requests from senior finance management to facilitate reviews and/or meet Regulatory demands
• Review RWA reports and discuss with Treasury Reporting teams and the desk.
• Significant involvement in structured trade pre-approval processes associated with these businesses.
The role is challenging but offers excellent opportunity to develop product knowledge, analytical skills as well as accounting and capital knowledge.
The individual should be a key team player, with excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic. Problem solving skills and an innovative approach to work are also required.
