Position summary

Entry-level economist position, based in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. Key areas of responsibility are to take on a portfolio of existing and new products/reports and be accountable for the day-to-day production, maintenance and development of these product lines.

Successful candidates will be trained on-the-job in the procedures, background and history of the company and its main products.

The context of the position is to provide the key bridge between the data collection aspect of Markit Economics and its communication to the markets. The economist role is also vital in providing technical economic support, including aspects of panel retention and recruitment.

Duties accountabilities

•Oversee the production of a portfolio of reports covering a wide range of countries, sectors and indicators.

•Assist in the production of the following reports:

•Global Business Outlook Report

•PMI Report on UK Regions

•PMI Metals Report

•Handle enquiries from the print and electronic media, subscribers and financial market participants/analysts

•With the aid of a senior economist, undertake a range of product development initiatives

•Provide support to the sales and marketing departments in promoting Markit Economics product lines and Markit Economics commentary

•Provide support to panel recruitment and retention initiatives

Business competencies

Education and experience

Essential

• First or Upper Second Class degree in Economics, or involving economics as its highest weighted component, from a well-respected University

• Good A level grades

• A real enthusiasm for economics and strong desire to forge a professional career as an economist

• Self-motivation and application

• Flexible

• Excellent IT skills

• Excellent English writing and speaking skills

• Excellent analytical skills

• Good communication skills

• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification in Economics or related subject

• Qualifications exhibiting a high degree of mathematical and/or report writing capabilities

• Formal report-writing training

• Familiarity with SQL and desktop publishing

Commercial awareness

Assist, where required, with seeking out potential commercial contacts for sponsorship of surveys.
