The Engineer position is an entry level position and is an excellent opportunity to learn about the technical start-up of selected sterile processing operations and on-going manufacturing Live Virus Vaccines in the Vaccine Manufacturing Facility in Durham, NC. The successful candidate will learn how to plan, design, and implement varied technical projects and studies requiring knowledge of engineering and the physical sciences to support the formulation, filling, lyophilization and inspection of Live Virus Vaccines. The Engineer candidate will learn about embracing and helping to establish an empowered team culture, including significant interaction with manufacturing, quality, and automation groups. Primary Activities will include assisting and learning about the following: 1. Analyzes complex processing problems through critical analytical thinking and the design/execution of laboratory/pilot scale experiments 2. Reviews and trends data through the use of PI to optimize production and increase efficiency 3. Development of sound scientific justification for planned material and process and equipment changes. 4. Analysis of current and proposed safety/environmental policies, guidelines, and standards and assessment of compliance status of facilities. 5. Provides leadership for troubleshooting and efficiently resolving manufacturing problems. Effectively develops and implements corrective actions to unplanned (atypical) manufacturing events to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of vaccine products. 6. Prepares and/or provides guidance and review for regulatory filing, process descriptions, atypical process reports and change requests. Acts as a participant in domestic and international regulatory agency inspections, including key Pre-Approval Inspections by CBER. 7. Supports all quality and safety initiatives. 8. Participates in technology transfer for new products from other manufacturing sites as well as research, including process design and demonstration of the operation and process by executing consistency/demonstration lots. 9. This involves: * Establishing a good working relationship with partners including Operations, Quality, Automation, CMC and product testing laboratories. * Developing a thorough understanding of the process and its complexities and identifying, communicating, and resolving scale-up issues * Determining the detailed specification of process equipment * Keeping his/her supervisor current on the progress of a new product, and making recommendations on production procedures Helps to establish empowered teams to achieve site mission, vision and goals through: * Efficient and safe operation of process systems * Compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices * Production of product that is safe and efficacious. Qualifications Required: * BS in Engineer or Science Preferred: * Co-op or Internship in a Pharmceutical or Manufacturing Facility * Familiarization with GMP's Our employees are the key to our company's success.
