Associate Engineer – System Integrity (900717) --- Integrity Corrosion Engineering, D.N. Rose Building

 

Salary range begins at $4,269. Depending on the selected applicant's qualifications, this position may be filled at a higher level with commensurate pay.

Duties and Responsibilities

To provide technical support for Questar Gas Companies (QGC) operations activities including for the Integrity Management and System Integrity departments; Integrity Management activities including planning of Integrity Management assessments and other activities, preparation of procedures and reports, review of assessment results and evaluation of remedial measures; assist in conducting transmission integrity-related projects including External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA) and Inline Inspection (ILI) assessments.  System Integrity activities include supporting corrosion mitigation activities including monitoring of cathodic protection system performance, recommend remediation actions, and design cathodic protection system improvements; monitor company policies and DOT requirements; help provide overall engineering design concepts and project management for cathodic protection system construction and operation; perform analysis of cathodic protection system capabilities; monitor cathodic system effectiveness; help with preparation of economic justifications, cost estimates, and feasibility studies; provide liaison with external parties regarding integrity management; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Work Conditions

Requires prolonged use of a computer keyboard.  May require working: additional hours, weekends and/or holidays to complete projects or meet deadlines.  May require: individual travel in both on- and off-road conditions; use of personal vehicle; and overnight and out-of-town travel, sometimes with short notice.  May be exposed to:  high voltage electricity; and chemicals, including, but not limited to, flammable gases and liquids, toxins, pesticides, corrosives and petroleum products. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

·                      Knowledge of: engineering principles and practices.  Basic knowledge of:  transmission pipeline integrity; DOT and other regulations relating to pipeline integrity; and cathodic protection principles and practices. Basic knowledge of and experience with personal computers, mainframe computer systems and related software.

·                      Skill in: relating interpersonally.

·                      Ability to: see objects at close range; interact with others to communicate clear instructions and evaluate results; analyze and solve complex problems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and respond to written and oral instructions; prepare proposals, summaries and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of grammar and punctuation; match and discriminate between colors; respond to emergency conditions while traveling (i.e., changing flat tires, chaining up vehicles, operating jacks, performing minor maintenance, and operating a company phone and radio); contribute to a positive work environment; be courteous to co-workers and customers; follow directions from supervisors; and refrain from abusive or profane language and behavior in the workplace.

·                      Requirements: regular attendance; a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferred; hold, or be eligible for, NACE certification; a valid driver’s license; an acceptable driving record; ability to become DOT operator-qualified while working in the position; and adhere to all company policies, including the Questar Corporation Business Ethics and Compliance Policy.
