LOCATION: Position based in London, UK with a six month to one year training program taking place in the Stamford, CT office.
OPPORTUNITY: This position will be focused primarily on servicing clients in the financial markets sector (FX, derivatives, fixed income, equities, commodities) and the banking sector (corporate banking, DCM/ECM). Associate or Vice Presidents are responsible for analyzing markets and guiding clients in understanding how their customers view them in the market. As a consultant, the Associate/Vice President positions is responsible for selling and managing client engagements with institutional financial services providers and evaluating competitive opportunities and threats for each client, based on its specific competencies and long-term objectives. Working closely with Managing Directors, the Associate/Vice President crafts consulting reports and presentations to clients’ senior management to recommend changes and highlight opportunities. In reports and meetings, consultants convey the changing landscape of the marketplace through the eyes of the client’s customer. The Associate/Vice President creates value by understanding clients’ needs, conducting analyses, delivering presentations, cultivating existing relationships, and developing new relationships. They manage day-to-day client activities and develop new ways to deliver them.
A Managing Director within his or her practice area is assigned to mentor the Associate/Vice President. The mentor is a coach and acts as a sounding board throughout the consultant’s career with the firm. There is an open process of encouragement. This relationship is also a method of knowledge transfer, where experience, both successes and mistakes, are shared by senior Managing Directors with consultants.
During the initial two years, the Associate/Vice President will mentor directly with Managing Directors in mastering the firm’s proprietary research methodology and in consulting with clients. In the following years, the Associate/Vice President can expect to be promoted to Vice President or Principal as they take on increasing responsibility (under the supervision of their mentor) for client sales and consulting, research management (similar to product management in other companies), and the strategic and business planning of the firm as a whole. Successful individuals may progress to Managing Director with equity ownership.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE: Distinctive competence in quantitative analysis, writing, persuasion, and consultative skills; a strong sense of inner direction and integrity, as well as high professional standards; and a long-term commitment to building a career at Greenwich Associates. A self-starter, the candidate should have a proven track record of being able to sell products to clients. Our ideal candidate is likely to be a “star performer” in a management consulting firm or within a financial services company, but may feel encumbered due to organizational size, lack of growth, promotional policies or lack of meaningful ownership opportunity.
Although an in-depth understanding of the financial services marketplace is not required by a candidate from a consulting firm, experience serving financial institutions is desirable particularly in the financial markets or banking areas. Experience in the CEEMEA (Central Eastern Europe/Middle East/Africa) region is an advantage.
Candidates must have the ability to work legally in the European Union. No sponsorships.
LANGUAGE CAPABILITY: Greenwich Associates Europe serves clients in the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Benelux, the Nordic region, Italy, Iberia and Switzerland. Fluency in English is required, preference given to candidates with fluency in one or more of Spanish, Italian or Central/Eastern European languages.
COMPENSATION: Competitive compensation packages including equity.
