Associate OSP Engineer
Henkels McCoy, Inc., with offices in 80 cities and celebrating 85 years in operation, and being one of the largest privately held international utility contracting firms with a reputation as one of the most reliable, innovative firms in engineering and construction, is now seeking an Associate OSP Engineer for its Kapolei, Hawaii, office. Future relocation to Pomona, California, may be required for this position. The incumbent will be a Telecommunications Professional with knowledge of important telecommunication measurements, clearances, safety guidelines, and structural requirements, who can work under the supervision and direction of an Engineer. The Associate OSP Engineer should be fully knowledgeable of the requirements set forth in telecommunications practices for electrical protection and have an understanding of the Bellcore Blue Book Standards, National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code. In this capacity, personnel may be required to prepare sketches and work diaries. Capable of performing daily routine functions that includes in necessary field work, records verification, document preparation, and data input, for development of work order construction prints records posting, simple cable count re-arrangements, joint pole work, and routine work order functions.
Responsibilities include field survey of outside plant aerial and underground network facilities and associated infrastructure. This includes:
- Field audits of maintenance holes, hand holes and pull boxes identifying cables, conduits and wall to wall footages.
- Field audits of utility poles identifying service providers and cable types (e.g., Hawaiian Tel, CATV, COAX cable, Fiber cable, copper cable,), hardware, span lengths and attachment heights.
- Design and redline outside plant network facilities and applicable infrastructure routes from Central Office termination point to customer access point or any segment in between.
- Initiate Wind Loading and Pole Loading forms.
- Coordinate access to professional/private facilities (e.g., schools, hospitals, military bases, etc.) when applicable.
- Requires experience with Bentley Microstation IDDS or GComm and AAIS
- Requires experience in posting and unicoding, creating work prints in Microstation IDDS or GComm
- A minimum of five years of experience in outside plant engineering is required.
- Requires the ability to work in a team environment.
- Requires strong time management of work activities
- Cable splicing experience desired
- Network Placing (Lineman) experience desired
- Inside Plant Installing experience desired
- Hawaiian Telephone Company, Verizon, and or GTE experience desired
