Associate Planner, Merchandise
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Provide support to the Merchandise Planner in order to drive and maximize sales and margin for WHBM.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in determining unit quantities to buy and reorder (to the color and size levels), which will effectively maximize the ability of each store to generate sales and margin.
• Develop a working knowledge of the concept of “average store” and apply it to the development of unit buy quantities, allocation of merchandise, and monitoring of the business at the store level.
• Develop a working knowledge of the concept of “store attributes” and apply it to guiding the type of merchandise developed for stores (respective to each store’s attributes), development of unit buy quantities, allocation of merchandise, and monitoring the business at the store level.
• Complete special assignments as identified.
• Increase Merchandise Planning Skills.
• Execute items 1 through 5 down through the lowest, reasonable level of the business, which will most directly impact sales and margin.
• Participate in Departmental Business Meetings.
• Assist with periodic reviews with the Allocator of the following to ensure that buy quantities and stock levels meet current sales trends:
o Store rankings and indices
o Basic stock replenishment items and quantities by store
o Sizing by store
• Maintain Weekly Unit Plans to determine sales goals, ensure adequate stock to meet fixture fills and goals, maintain a healthy weeks of supply during the full-life price of the merchandise, and to effectively monitor these elements to project future stock needs or to recommend clearance strategies.
• Partner with the Planner on managing the Monthly Business Review (MBR) process through the development of sales, markdown, receipt and inventory forecasts, supporting these forecasts with unit projections, and reporting unit performance and receipt issues during the MBR meetings.
• Develop specific reports to support the business and complete ad hoc reporting as needed to drive or react to current or future business conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 4-Year College degree in Finance or related field preferred
• Minimum 2 - 3 years experience in Allocation, Merchandising, Demand Forecasting, Financial Planning or Analysis
• Strong systems skills with experience in SAP, Arthur, Retek, Excel and Access required
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Understanding of forecasting methodology and understanding of retail math
• Ability to makes decisions with limited information but also able to synthesize large quantities of data to drive business decisions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Builds collaborative partnerships cross-functionally
