Associate Portfolio Asset Management
Key Reponsibilities of the role:
Asset Management
Monitoring and reporting on a rapidly expanding portfolio of predominantly European infrastructure debt investments covering regulated and contracted utilities, PFI/PPP and transportation sectors:
- Ongoing review and monitoring of the financial and operating performance of individual assets to cover the reporting requirements for both Hastings’ internal purposes and for external clients
- Review budgets, business plans and forecasts provided against investment forecasts
- Prepare periodic formal credit reviews to a high standard for each transaction, including an ongoing assessment of value and compliance with investment mandates
- Assets to be reviewed in the context of industry developments, sector specific issues, peer entity reporting and corporate action comparisons
- Attend meetings with management and develop relationships with sponsors, the agent, lenders’ advisers and the wider lender group to aid the monitoring of assets and to stay close to the market
- Evaluate waivers and consent requests, prepare internal approval papers and coordinate the internal and external process to ensure an efficient and transparent execution
Portfolio Management
- Contribute to portfolio credit reviews including the financial and operation performance of the portfolio as a whole including the review of consistency with agreed portfolio guidelines
- Contribute to client/fund updates, the preparation of investor material and present information to investors on fund performances in conjunction with the Director
- Evaluate divestment proposals and other investment and sector specific issues and prepare associated internal papers to present to the Investment Committee
Fund Modelling
- Day to day management of portfolio models, including investments, swap arrangements, tax and fee leakage and other structural considerations
- Overview and assistance to staff using the models to undertake portfolio analysis on existing assets, research, preparing reports and making recommendations as required to assist with portfolio management
PAM Development and Maintenance
- Support the Director in establishing and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure the business is well equipped to manage the expansion of the Infrastructure Debt portfolio across a range of different funds and managed accounts
- Assist with the development of internal and external reporting templates
- Assist with the development of a diary management system to improve the control and visibility of key reporting dates for covenant information receipt, deal-specific key “credit events” and internal reporting requirements
- Assist with the co-ordination of PAM responsibilities across the team to ensure the timely review, reporting and response to information receipts and requests, and the efficient filing of these
- Assist with the development and maintenance of credit rating, LGD, pricing and relative value tools
Credit and infrastructure market knowledge
- Keep informed of key developments in the local and wider infrastructure and credit markets and ensure dissemination of information to the wider team
- Prepare “Lessons Learned” papers on assets experiencing credit issues to assist with the retention of knowledge within the team
- Attend seminars and other training to supplement knowledge as required
Business Development Assistance
- Support the wider Infrastructure Debt team through maintaining relationships with financial intermediaries, advisors, financial sponsors and borrowers in order to help identify origination leads
- Where required, assist with the execution of new assets and ensure a smooth transition from the Origination to PAM team
- Where required, assist in the preparation of fund raising marketing materials and attend prospective investor meetings
Qualifications/Experience
- Relevant academic qualification with excellent grades to at least Bachelor’s level
- 4-6 years experience (dependent on whether associate or senior associate) working in the finance industry
- Demonstrable structured/project finance experience across regulated and contracted utilities, PFI/PPP and transportation sectors including material experience in the asset management of infrastructure debt transactions
- Good working knowledge of global debt markets
- Experience in funds management or working with institutional investors would be well regarded
