Associate, Portfolio Management
The primary role of an Associate is to provide analytical support to the investment team. The role includes performance and valuation analysis, assistance with portfolio strategy and asset management, reporting and transaction execution. Associates are expected to be active participants in the infrastructure investment team and may contribute analytical support to any of the group’s projects or new investment opportunities as deemed appropriate. The role includes working with other investment and finance team members to improve knowledge sharing, drive innovation and best practices and improve our processes.
Specific Accountabilities
Portfolio Management Activities
- Manage client or fund cash flow models
- Manage calculation and reporting of performance for funds and mandates
- Review asset returns for portfolio performance
- Compile board papers for Investment Committee and other relevant governance bodies
- Portfolio analysis
- Performance reporting, including fee modelling
- Assist with periodic review of portfolio strategy and compilation of strategy papers for Investment Committee and other relevant governance bodies
- Debt maturity analysis
- Manage foreign exchange hedges and derivatives
- Results Reporting for Fund (six monthly and annual)
- Draft announcements and results for investors
- Provide and verify data for external presentations
- Compile annual report, including providing and verifying data
Investor Relations Activities
- Respond to investor queries on funds and investments
- Respond to ad hoc due diligence enquiries and formal Requests for Information from prospective investors
- Prepare announcements and presentations for investors and consultants
Asset Management Activities
- Support asset management activities for any allocated investments including reviewing board papers and preparing investment papers, where appropriate
- Analyse financial and operational data
- Provide analytic support for investments and asset management activities
- Support quarterly, annual and ad hoc investment level reporting
- Manage independent valuation process for each allocated investment, including analysing data and preparing internal reports
- Conduct Research for funds and / or assets
- Assist with administration activities through attendance at team meetings, performance reviews, act as SME on firm wide initiatives and conduct mentoring activities for junior team members.
- Support thought leadership initiatives, including preparing research papers
Qualifications and Prerequisites
- Strong academic achievement in finance or related undergraduate degree
- Minimum 2 years experience working in the finance industry
- Knowledge of and interest in the infrastructure sector
Specific Capabilities
- Strong quantitative/numerical skills
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrable understanding of infrastructure sector and debt markets
- Expert level Microsoft Excel skills
- Understanding of investment performance analytics and valuation analysis (Modern Portfolio Theory, Capital Asset Pricing Model, Discounted Cash Flow Analysis)
- Solid project and time management skills
- Proven ability to work within tight deadlines
- Previous experience in thinking laterally to identify solutions to complex problems
