Associate Principal Tax Research Analyst – Sales Tax

Vertex Inc. is currently looking for an Associate Principal Tax Research Analyst with progressive tax compliance experience determining sales tax for the United States and Canada.
In this role, you will assume responsibility for:
- Monitoring and analyzing legislative activities and court decisions utilizing research tools such as CCH, BNA, information from third party data providers and other sources of tax content
- Identifying appropriate changes in order to maintain and update our software products via internal databases
- Conducting primary research to expand the coverage of content within the software products
- Developing and analyzing test cases for compliance testing of software as needed
- Perform testing and quality assurance tasks
- Identifying, understanding and communicating changes in the tax law or regulations that would have an impact on Vertex products
- Providing direction and recommendations for product teams
- Answering tax related questions
- Interacting with other group members and cross functional team members
- Collaborating with other departments, contributing time, effort and ideas
We encourage individuals possessing all of the following minimum qualifications to apply immediately:
Education Training:
- 4 year college degree in business, finance, tax, economics, or related area OR equivalent work experience is required
Work Experience:
- 8+ years of progressively responsible tax research and compliance experience in a multi-state environment is required
- 8+ years of experience determining sales tax for entities in multiple locations in either a consulting or corporate environment is required
- Experience decomposing tax rules and restating them in language understandable by non tax professionals and other parties is required
- Research skills using the internet and various 3rd party tax data resources such as CCH, BNA, etc are required
- SALT practice of major CPA firms or consulting experience is highly desired
- Working knowledge of relational databases and various software tools is highly desired
Specialized Knowledge Skills:
- Understanding of tax information and the ability to formulate interpretations and determine how they apply to Vertex products is required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
- Strong organizational, analytical, and logic skills are required
- Strong customer service skills
- Computer literate with working knowledge of current PC software applications including word processing programs, spreadsheet programs and Internet is required
- Understanding of accounting functions and principles is required
- Working knowledge of Vertex software products is a plus
