The Risk Management Services (RMS) Group is a global advisory group that helps clients better understand and manage financial risk. We create customized solutions for financial institutions, large companies, and governments seeking to implement best practices in risk measurement and management. Our client list includes some of the largest and most respected companies in the world. RMS is composed of consultants spread across the globe with primary offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Beijing. Responsibilities
The Role:
As an Associate with the RMS Group, you will be an active member of a team that works with leading banks, insurers, and other financial institutions in North and South America to solve their foremost challenges related to financial risk, including deal origination, valuation, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance. This particular role will have a special focus on the valuation of thinly-traded, complex debt instruments.
You will work as part of a project team to deliver customized solutions to senior executives (typically chief risk officers or chief financial officers) at client organizations. During a typical advisory engagement, you will assess the client's issues and concerns, conduct analyses to develop and support recommendations, provide advice, share expertise, and coach clients on implementing your recommendations.
The position requires an understanding of debt instruments, lending and underwriting practices, and credit risk measurement. Associates should also demonstrate an understanding of the current issues and challenges that face clients (e.g. Basel II and III, adoption of Dodd-Frank) while also possessing a high level understanding of the ideas, research, and products developed within Moody's Analytics.
Qualified applicants should have prior experience in the valuation of complex debt instruments in the context of a banking, asset management, or insurance environment. They should also enjoy interacting with clients, sharing knowledge, and contributing in a team environment. Qualified applicants should also be comfortable working in a close-knit, highly entrepreneurial environment. Over time, successful Associates can move into more advanced roles such as Engagement Manager (with responsibility for leading larger teams and projects) or Principal (with responsibility for business development and client relationship management).
Key Responsibilities:
- As a member of a client-focused project team, analyze financially-oriented issues, conduct research, collect data, design processes, build financial models, and perform similar tasks, all as part of making fact-based recommendations to clients
- Assist in preparing and delivering proposals, interim reports, and final presentations
- Meet with client employees, managers and other stakeholders to explain analyses and recommendations
- Work closely with engagement managers, principals, and relationship managers to address client challenges and implement solutions
- Develop a broad understanding of Moody's Analytics offerings and capabilities, and then take advantage of Moody's intellectual assets as appropriate during client engagements
Qualifications
Education/Experience Required
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with a bank, asset manager, insurer, or management consultancy
- Minimum one (1) year of professional experience primarily focused on securities and/or derivatives valuation
- Prior experience in financial risk analysis and/or credit risk management a plus
- Minimum bachelors degree from an internationally recognized institution
- MBA, MFE, or Ph.D. a plus
- CPA, CFA, PRM, or FRM a plus
- Demonstrated comfort with quantitative disciplines, with evidence of prior academic studies in finance, engineering, the physical sciences or math
- Demonstrated understanding of debt instruments, securities and derivatives valuation, and/or capital allocation
- Demonstrated understanding of commercial lending and underwriting processes a plus.
- Practical experience with Basel, Solvency II, or IFRS a plus
Skills/Knowledge Required
- Track record of working well in team environments and contributing innovative ideas
- Strong, proven analytical skills
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of database systems (e.g., Access) and modelling platforms (e.g., Matlab, S+) a plus
- Fluency with the operation of financial systems and financial institutions
- Strong evidence of being self disciplined, highly organized, able to multi-task, and attentive to detail
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed, with necessary clearances / permissions for travel outside the United States
- Minimum fluency in English; working knowledge of Spanish, French, or Portuguese a plus
