Associate, Renewable Energy Portfolio Investments
An initial three billion pounds of government funding has been allocated for investment until April 2015. A further £800m has been committed by the UK Government in June 2013 providing certainty of funding until March 2016, and GIB has the ability to borrow up to £500m of the total of £800m from the National Loans Fund in 2015/16.
These investments will be made on market terms with the GIB targeting a ‘double bottom line’ of both achieving significant green impact and making market-level financial returns (GIB is a ‘for profit bank’).
The priority sectors for the GIB will initially be:
- Offshore wind power generation
- Waste processing and recycling
- Energy from waste
- Non-domestic energy efficiency including on-site renewables
- Support for the Green Deal.
The Portfolio Investment Management (“PIM”) group is responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting on all investments (senior debt (project or corporate), mezzanine, preferred equity, equity, funds etc) made by the GIB. This team coordinates with the various groups within the GIB, including all relevant transaction teams, risk and green sustainability teams.
Responsibilities
The role will be based in the London office and will contribute to the key components of the PIM team functions, namely:
- On-going investment management, monitoring and administration of equity / debt / and funds investments;
- Information management and reporting: operational and business reporting / financial performance monitoring / covenant reporting
- Financial modelling and Investments’ economic valuation / comparable trading multiples and precedent transaction multiples / returns (IRR) calculation and sensitivity analysis / covenants stress testing / risk evaluation;
- Liquidity management (sources uses, short-term cash flow modelling and management) and transaction documentation compliance (incl. on fees / costs / expenses / performance incentive compensation);
- Implementation of investments’ governance (principles, rights and obligations, annual / business planning and decision making);
- Portfolio strategy (mitigation of conflicts of interest and portfolio diversification);
- Market and relevant sectors monitoring (performance benchmarking, market performance and trends, impacts on portfolio and sensitivities);
- Implementation of core policies and setup of processes and procedures (relevant given the early stage of GIB’s development).
Essential experience
- A relevant University degree (minimum 2.1 or above) and 4-6 years relevant work experience gained in investment banking or investment management and/or project finance environment;
- Strong debt and/or equity documentation experience;
- Financial modelling experience;
- Economic valuation and returns calculation experience;
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills;
- A self-motivated, committed work ethic and a drive for perfection as well as keen attention to detail;
- Excellent problem solving and analytic ability;
- Ability to perform under deadline pressure;
- Strong data management and research skills;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Knowledge of the energy and renewables sectors is preferable
