Allison Transmission is currently looking for an Associate Test Engineer at their headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.
Position Description
Engineers in this position perform hybrid transmission component level and system testing. They are responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of test programs. They are required to work closely on a daily basis as an interface between Product Engineers and Test Technicians.
- For this position, the typical testing environment includes involvement with engine power test cells, energy storage systems, battery modules, inverters, DC/DC converters and associated hybrid components. The engineer would also gain exposure to fatigue cycle testing, vibration testing, and various other 'customized' testing as required per Product Engineering. Significant mechanical content exists. This person will share knowledge, assist and train other engineers by maintaining good attendance, good attitude and a team approach in all projects.
- Assumes appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development team.
- Participates in planning and/or status meetings.
- Promotes teamwork on all work related assignments.
- Designs tests to meet specified objectives. Analyzes statistical validity of proposed testing when appropriate.
- Plans, manages, and oversees the execution of product tests.
- Assures facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needs.
- Issues the appropriate instructional documents (work requests) as required to initiate and support the test flow.
- Assists in gathering, and performs analysis of test data to ensure its validity.
- Documents test events/results through Test Reports, log entries and database entries as appropriate.
- Prepares, or assists in preparation of program bids or requests for estimations.
- Observes applicable procedures and practices as delineated in Test Operations Manual, PE Procedures, Standard Procedures.
- Manages, monitors, and assists in assembly process of test units and disposition of parts.
- Maintains willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammates.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Position Requirements
Required:
- BSME or BSEE or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in written and spoken English required. Good communication skills required.
- Basic knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears desired but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required.
- Statistical training highly desired.
- Basic mechanical aptitude required.
- Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools required.
Preferred:
- Experience in a related automotive/industrial field desirable.
- Troubleshooting experience in electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferred.
