The TOTEM service, founded in 1997, provides the major market makers in OTC derivatives with definitive consensus market prices. More than 50 of the leading banks, trading houses and other investment professionals use the TOTEM service as the key independent check of their trading book valuations. The service encompasses the equity, interest rate, currency, commodity, credit and bond markets, providing comprehensive matrices of vanilla prices and a wide selection of exotic products. Markit TOTEM recently launched a daily service for Equities, FX and Commodity derivatives which requires additional operational support both in London and in Sydney.
Position summary
Critical
- Computer Science graduate
- Able to demonstrate use of java and core computer science principles in university projects and preferably commercially (e.g. internship, year out)
- Excellent communicator
- Sound understanding of database theory and some practical experience with at least one major db vendor
- Proactive and keen to learn how to develop java applications in highly dynamic financial services environment
Desirable
- Understanding of Dependency Injection and ORM (eg. Spring/Hibernate)
- Knowledge of web development technologies (javascript/jquery/REST)
- Familiar with best-practice unit and integration testing techniques
- Familiar with use of Maven or similar on software projects
- Familiar with Linux environments
Duties accountabilities
- Develop internal tools and frameworks for use by developers, support, and financial analysts
- Involvement in architecture and design of systems
- See projects through the entire development lifecycle and provide support in production
- Liaise with analysts, other developers, testing team and possibly clients
- Work well within a team; participate in and encourage a culture of sharing useful knowledge
Business competencies
Education and experience
- 2:1 or above degree in Computer Science or related field
- 2-4 years of commercial development experience.
Commercial awareness
- Understanding of basic derivatives terminology is helpful, but not essential
