Associate/AVP, Market Data Analyst, Portfolio Valuations

Markit Portfolio Valuations provides an independent, post-trade valuation service to buy-side institutions globally, covering vanilla and exotic derivatives, cash instruments and structured notes across all asset classes. The service also offers clients the ability to receive an aggregated set of counterparty marks for their trades.
Position summary
Markit Portfolio Valuations is looking for a talented and motivated individual to work within its market data analysis team, which is a critical component of the business. This role will cover market data used in derivative pricing across all asset classes, including Credit, Commodities, Equities, Foreign Exchange and Interest Rates.
Duties accountabilities
- Perform regular and ad-hoc market data analysis to support the existing valuation service, building or modifying any analysis tools that are required
- Lead a number of projects for the market data analysis team
- Review all ad-hoc manual cleaning and capture tools and work with technology to automate them and integrate them into the existing platform
- Work with internal and external data providers to evaluate their data sets and carry out the integration of these feeds into the market data platform
- Test and implement configuration and data source changes to the market data platform
- Assess the quality of market data and the consistency and integrity of market data objects such as yield curves, forward curves and volatility surfaces across all asset classes
- Assist the product services team in dealing with market data issues and identifying processes that will prevent such issue
- Ensure that data cleaning and quality control processes are put in place, working with product specialists to specify improvements and with the technology team to implement them
- Create documentation for both internal and external audiences on the data structures and delivery. Documentation to include user guides, sales literature and data dictionaries
Business competencies
Education and experience
- Prior experience in market data analysis applied to traded financial instruments, gained within banking or financial services
- Ability to manipulate and validate large and complex sets of market information such as prices, rates and volatilities
- Some previous exposure to market data objects such as yield curves, forward curves or volatility surfaces is preferable
- Any general understanding of how market data relates to the pricing of derivative instruments would be useful
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good undergraduate or Masters degree from a recognised university in a numerical, financial or technical discipline
- Proficiency in Excel, VBA and SQL
Commercial awareness
- Understanding of market data vendor market place highly desirable
- Knowledge of the competitive landscape for financial systems, software and financial data providers is desirable
- Understanding of derivative trading / quoting conventions in one or more asset classes would be desirable
- Appreciation of the business criticality of market data quality, gained within previous roles
