Associate/VP – Project Finance

Leading senior debt/equity investment house with a very strong reputation in the power space.
THE ROLE
The team focuses on financing power and waste projects and provides advice, senior debt, mezzanine debt and occasionally equity to finance projects on a limited recourse/ project finance basis. The team looks at projects from across the Eurozone, in the UK and occasionally in selective countries in Eastern Europe. The team has financed conventional power, wind, solar, waste processing, waste to energy, landfill gas, geothermal and hydro sectors.
To support continued growth and strong deal flow, the team is looking to recruit an experienced individual with the essential attributes set out below. The primary focus of this role would be in providing support on lending and investing in deals involving power production, but the individual would also work closely with the wider group and on advisory work. The role requires the ability to analyse, structure and negotiate such transactions. In addition to the essential attributes it would be helpful if the candidate had some of the additional attributes listed below.
Essential attributes:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence to question received positions at all levels of an organisation;
- Recent experience of construction and operation of power generating and/or waste processing assets (“Relevant Assets”), ideally as an owner / sponsor of the project and ideally including projects that have experienced and resolved challenges;
- Recent experience of negotiating commercial contracts for the construction and subsequent operation of Relevant Assets;
- Excellent ability to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of projects “in the round” and structure such transactions successfully taking into account the technology solution and commercial contracts proposed, regulatory backdrop, counterparties involved, their experience and strengths;
- Excellent experience and knowledge of projects in the electric power generation sector and/or waste processing sector (ideally including renewables) in the UK and ideally also some Eurozone countries;
- Detailed familiarity with the regulatory and legal backdrop in the UK of some sub-sectors of Relevant Assets and the ability to extend that knowledge to other sectors
- Good financial analysis skills and familiarity with financial models for project finance and key ratios and concepts used in them.
- Experience of negotiation of project finance term sheets and/or facility agreements;
- Good understanding of project finance legal and contractual structures gained through being involved in at least 2 “financial closes” of project finance deals.
