To assess, diagnose, and treat patients with hearing, balance and related disorders. Essential Functions: - Evaluates patients audiologic function, interprets findings, reviews test results w/ patient or responsible adult. - Documents patients case history, test results recommendations for follow up in the medical record reports results recommendations to referring physician /or PCP. - Counsels patients about treatment options for hearing loss refers patients to ENT for consultation when appropriate. - Counsels patients about management of chronic tinnitus. - Educates patients about hearing conservation. - Evaluates patients vestibular function when referred for dizziness, vertigo, or imbalance. - Performs canalith repositioning maneuvers for patients w/ BPPV counsels patients about vestibular rehabilitation exercises when appropriate. - Performs interprets electro physiologic special tests of the peripheral central auditory system. - Evaluates infant hearing status w/ a comprehensive battery of tests. - Evaluates patients hearing aids when appropriate enters external referrals for hearing aids for members w/ a hearing aid benefit. - Consults w/ physicians about management of hearing vestibular disorders. - Performs other related duties as directed. Qualifications: Schedule: - Hours per week and scheduled days can vary slightly: 32-40/week. Basic Qualifications: - 2 years of experience w/ Au.D or 10 years of experience w/ Master's degree required. - CPR certification required. - National Provider Identification (NPI) required. - Core Competencies (expectations of every employee in this job category): - Has excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Has word processing skills and is computer literate. - Is customer focused and follows the guidelines of the KP service standard. - Has good problem solving and conflict management skills. - Works well in a team environment. - Adheres to departmental standards and procedures. - Assists the Healthcare Team and Public know the role of the Audiologist. - Techinical or Clinical Competencies: (specific skills essential to this position) - Basic Clinical Competencies - Pure tone air and bone conduction testing and speech audiometry, including appropriate masking techniques; modification of test techniques for uncooperative, non-verbal, and non-English speaking patients. - Immittance testing techniques; modification of testing strategies with uncooperative patients. - Otoscopic examination for gross abnormalities of the external ear canal and tympanic membrance. - Test strategies used with young children, including otoacoustic emissions testing (DPOAE and TEOAE), play audiometry, and visual reinforcement audiometry. - Effective counseling skills. - Administration and interpretation of vestibular function tests (ENG, VNG). - Identification and treatment of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) with canalith repositioning maneuvers. - Administration and interpretation of electrophysiologic tests, including ABR, ECochG. - Current knowledge about hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices. - Techniques of hearing aid analysis, including functional gain test and current standards for electro-acoustic analysis of hearing aids. - Current knowledge about causes of and treatments for chronic tinnitus. Preferred Qualifications: ADVANCED CLINICAL COMPETENCIES (assessments and treatments not performed in all locations and by all audiologists) 1. VEMPS (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials) 2. ASSR (Auditory Steady State Response) 3. Probe microphone measurements with hearing aids 4. Treatment of horizontal and anterior canal BPPV. Preferred Skills: - Minimum of three years experience as an audiologist, independently competent with VNG and BAER (ABR) testing.
