Audit Project Manager – Market Risk recruitment

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the critical and more complex Broker-Dealer, Capital Markets, Corporate and Investment Banking and Venture Capital related audit risk review assignments by:
  2. assuming responsibility for project management,
  3. developing the audit program and scope, through risk evaluations
  4. organizing and using resources effectively to complete assignments within budgeted time,
  5. documenting processes,
  6. analyzing process documentation to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency,
  7. making appropriate recommendations and reporting the results of audits, and
  8. addressing material issues with senior management.
  9. Partner with complex line of business managers to include, Broker-Dealer, Capital Markets, Derivatives, Investment Banking and Private Equity Managers to support and improve risk management by:
  10. recommending improvements to risk management systems and process,
  11. having a high level of understanding of the business strategies of BBT, each line of business, and the specific area or process under review,
  12. being very knowledgeable of the organization, operations, policies, and procedures (including securities industry laws and regulations,
  13. proactively supporting management on the establishment of internal controls, monitoring techniques, and risk management,
  14. advocating incorporation of risk management in the implementation of new systems, processes, and changes to existing systems and procedures,
  15. representing Audit on more complex and/or critical bank task forces, and
  16. utilizing expertise in financial services.
  17. Develop and maintain specialization and expertise in a specific line(s) of business.  More specifically, broker dealer/capital markets products including margin and option accounts, investment banking practices, securities markets, and self-regulatory organizations. Ability to keep abreast of current trends, new developments, technologies, and practices in the auditingprofession, banking industry, and securities industry.  Serve as coach for areas of specialization.  Continue developing knowledge of auditing and use of microcomputers.  Pursue continuing education and possible additional professional certifications, as appropriate.
  18. Develop and maintain communications with management in areas of specialization to ensure effective working relationships.  Assist management in establishing internal controls by consulting in the implementation of new systems, processes, and changes to existing systems, standards, and procedures.  Assist other departments in their periodic compliance reviews.
  19. Maintain Risk Profile Information used to prioritize and evaluate the business processes within each line of business.
  20. Participate in the development of the department’s Mission Statement and Corporate goals.  Provide guidance to audit teams in delivery of audit and consulting services. Provide leadership in development of team members. Take an active role in the training and mentoring of new and junior team members. Be a Client Service champion by consistently modeling world standard client service delivery.
  21. Maintain rapport with external auditors/bank examiners and assist in the coordination efforts to ensure prompt and efficient completion of their examination.
  22. Train/coach/mentor team members to enhance achievement of goals and objectives.  Provide training on more complex and difficult areas.

Minimum Required Skills or Competencies:

  1. Four year college degree in accounting, business, or related field.
  2. The ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  3. The ability to lead and execute risk review and audit programs to include Broker-Dealer, Capital Markets, Trading and Private Equity activities.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the risk evaluation and/or audit of Broker-Dealer, Capital Markets and Private Equity activities.  Advanced knowledge, ability, and expertise in Derivatives, Sales and Trading, Broker Dealer Operations, Capital Markets, and Corporate and Investment Banking areas of banking and financial services.  Substantial leadership experience, advanced client service consulting skills and ability.
  5. Excellent understanding of securities operations, trading environments, and risk management.  Understanding of Know Your Customer (KYC) rules and regulations, Suitability Standards, Anti Money Laundering, Suspicious Activity Reporting.
  6. Demonstrated leadership ability and decision making skills.
  7. Solid understanding of risk management and process concepts.
  8. Strong project management and consulting skills.
  9. Strong analytical, facilitation, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  10. Excellent written, oral, and negotiating skills. 
  11. Solid auditing skills and a broad understanding of banking and financial services.
  12. PC literate on BBT standard software packages.
  13. Possess creativity  - think “outside the box”.
  14. Demonstrate the ability to be a team player both inside and outside the Department.

  16.  Willingness to travel when necessary, including overnight.

Desired Skills or Competencies:

  1. MBA or Advanced degree in Finance
  2. Possess appropriate professional certification, such as CIA, CFA, Series 7 or CPA
