Mechanical Design Engineer:

 

Work in the layout and design of specialty equipment to supply safe, high quality products within budget and on time.  

 

Prepare an estimate of the number of drawings and approximate hours to complete design.

 

Understand and develop design concepts independently, including interfacing with vendors, the Toolroom and at times customers.

 

Provide concept layout drawings, functional assembly drawings and detailed drawings for the Toolroom and assembly.

 

Understand and adhere to standard engineering practices. Demonstrate insight into analyzing designs and enhancing them.

 

Provide information to detail draftspersons.

 

Control drawing costs and schedule throughout the project.

 

Keep close contact with the shop with current projects and possible improvements and cost reductions for future projects.

                                                    

Be able to work with basic design sketches and concept development.            

                                                       

Possess strong documentation skills including interpretation of drawings, using design sketches, writing purchase requisitions, BOM’s, drawing lists and general job filing.

                                                       

Have ability to use reference materials including design standards, machinery handbooks, national standards, etc.

 

Have experience and ability to select and size commercial components (bearings, gearboxes, cylinders, bolts, tool steels, etc.) This significantly includes interfacing with vendors and “getting what you need”.

             

Demonstrate proficient drawing skills with the use of  CAD systems. Preference Inventor AutoDesk.

 

Possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly with other employees and supervisors.
