Overall Purpose: To support the Laboratory Instrument Support group, by providing preventative maintenance/qualification activities, troubleshooting and repairs of laboratory automation. Principle Duties: -Responsible for troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance and calibration activities on critical laboratory automation equipment including, but not limited to: Liquid Handling, Automation, high throughput screening systems, compound storage systems, cell culture systems and ancillary measuring devices such as cell counters, sealing systems and multi drop dispensers. -Documents all work performed to ensure GMP/GLP compliance -Recognises out of tolerance conditions and initiate corrective action and documentation -Provide support and repair on electro mechanical systems including, but not limited to: servo drives, robotic arms, pneumatic systems and actuators, mechanical pumps, data-bus systems and I/O distribution networks -Provides timely updates on repair/pm/calibrations activities to Automation Team Leader (ATL), LIS Coordinators and instrument/automation users -Locate part sources, estimates costs and submit requisitions -Provide technical training and mentoring to other Automation engineers and technicians -Provide users with training on automation processes and equipment utilisation -Comply with company policies and procedures and adheres to company standards -Perform work in accordance with approved instrument calibration, maintenance and safety procedures Provide a triage service and where required, work with equipment OEM’s in the resolution of faults and failures. -Perform additional duties as required Personal Experience/Qualifications/Skills: Essential Qualities -A HND/HNC/ONC in a scientific/ engineering discipline -Able to interpret electrical, pneumatic and controls diagrams as an aid to fault diagnosis -Experience in interpreting software error logs/messaging -Experience of working in a Pharmaceutical or Regulated Environment -Good communications skills -Ability to understand complex scientific/engineering concepts -Ability to complete administrative tasks in a timely manner and to regulatory/business requirements. -Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Desirable Qualities: -Specialised training or experience related to scientific instrumentation and software. To include, but not limited to, Liquid Handling, Cell Culture, both adherent and suspension cell systems, Compound Storage, Cell dispensing and incubation, CO2 Incubating systems, cell plating automation -Knowledge of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment including GxP, validation, qualification. -Experience in mechanical/electrical safety systems for the isolation of automation including light curtain and Pilz (or similar) safety circuit systems.
