Responsibilities
This is a career opportunity for a data modeler to assume responsibility for all logical data modeling and physical database design for both new and legacy systems.

Individual will provide data modeling services to the business. The role is to assist Data Architecture move the enterprise to a model driven database development and maintenance culture. There are two components to the role, one concerning legacy systems, the other, new systems.

In the legacy system area, the applicant would mentor application teams in creating logical models from reverse engineered legacy databases (initially focusing on naming and documenting entities). Following the creation of these models, the applicant would be responsible for institutionalizing a workflow whereby future database changes were implemented through a traditional logical to physical model design process. The data modeler would be responsible for managing the project, archiving the models, training developers and ensuring the quality and continuing maintenance of the models. The goal of this project is to document the data resources of the company and the inter-application data flows. This metadata collection will be driven through the creation of these models as will an associated project for continuous improvement of the design process.

In the new systems area, the data modeler will be expected to familiarize themselves with databases designs that will underpin the key strategic systems. They will conduct design reviews with the consultants creating these models and liaise with the business to validate the requirements are being captured. They will be responsible for ensuring these models follow all the relevant data standards and are of highest quality. The data modeler will be expected to do some of the new systems modeling work, and be capable of stepping into any of the main projects if required.

They will be part of the Data Architecture team, but much of the work will require they take a leadership role with developers and representatives of the business.

Qualifications

Strong analytic and communication skills. Must feel comfortable on taking a leadership role with developers and representatives of the business.
-10+ years of full time data modeling experience, creating both logical and physical designs.
-10+ years of data modeling tool experience. IBM RDA is the tool of choice for new development. Familiarity with RDA is a plus, but modeler must have experience in one or more other tools such as ER/Studio, ERwin or PowerDesigner.
-Has a deep and genuine interest in the subject of data modeling, understands normalization and of the techniques used in transactional and dimensional modeling.
-Have been responsible for implementing systems on a range of different RDBMS, DB2 is a must, SYBASE a plus.
-3+ years fixed income security knowledge a plus.
-Familiar with RUP / IDP Methodology.
-Project management experiences a plus.
-Ability to work as part of team, as well as independently.
-College degree in Computer Science preferred. Master degree a plus.
