AVP, Investment Management Services recruitment
The scope of John Hancock's Investment Management department includes $175 billion in AUM and 50+ investment manager relationships.
This Assistant Vice President is responsible for maintaining and enhancing a disciplined investment selection and review process for various investment platforms across multiple business lines including annuities, mutual funds, defined contribution, insurance and asset allocation. This person will develop and work with existing asset managers (subadvisors) and develop new relationships consistent with the needs of each business unit.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Direct a portion of the manager research team which conducts due diligence for the investment platforms utilized by all John Hancock business units including annuities, mutual funds, defined contribution, insurance and asset allocation.
- Oversee the implementation of a disciplined set of monitoring tools to provide ongoing oversight of asset management firms, portfolio managers and individual funds (including risk metrics).
- Edit and supervise the production of performance commentaries.
- Assist IMS senior management with their responsibilities related to the Boards of Trustees oversight of all subadvised mandates.
- Maintain and cultivate relationships with various constituents, including business units, Boards of Trustees, internal executives and internal functional groups.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the manager due diligence operation in terms of structure and content.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of products and investment managers.
- Assist in the development and presentation of the investment story related to the investment oversight function.
Recommended Experience:
- 15+ years financial industry experience, including investment manager research experience or similar function
- Experience managing a team
- CFA and/or MBA required
- Undergraduate degree in Finance/Economics/Statistics desired
- Demonstrated knowledge of the subadvisor due diligence process, investment marketplace, industry trends and competitive landscape
- Working knowledge of portfolio analysis and attribution software including Morningstar Direct, FactSet, MPI Stylus, Zephyr, Bloomberg, eVestment Alliance and Ibbotson
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Collaborative team player with superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
