Department Overview
Our Finance Division is comprised of the following groups: Financial Control, Product Control, Financial Decision Support, and Tax. All areas allow you to build a thorough understanding of our business and enable you to add value in the reporting and analysis of financial information. Finance is an exciting area as the division supports a variety of products in a constantly changing marketplace. Financial Control oversees the financial records and reporting of our business activity. Providing accurate information, they enable us to react to opportunities and focus on critical business issues. Financial Control also provides information to senior management, as well as external fiscal parties. Product Control provides explanations of business revenues, attributing any movements to market positions, inherent risk and new deals. The team is also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet for revenue products. Product Control is pivotal to our reporting and control infrastructure and the information provided by the group gives us the means to assess business performance. In addition, the group coordinates all global finance controls and procedures. Financial Decision Support bolsters Barclay's Capital's growth by enabling and supporting all financial decisions within the firm, through timely provision of quality data and partnership with key strategic decision makers. Tax is responsible for managing tax risk in Barclay's Capital and provides tax support to all our business areas.
Main Function
- Manage the control environment surrounding the Protium Assets and Helix areas within SCPM
- Validation and reporting of daily trading PL for the Strategic Credit Portfolio Management Business
- Month end close
- Management of various ad hoc projects
Main Duties
- Responsible for daily PL production for various portfolios
- Take ownership of balance sheet and understand movements on a weekly, monthly, quarterly basis to report to the Front Office, Financial Control, and Regulatory
- Responsible for month-end reconciliations of both balance sheet and income statement, postings and reporting of Financial data
- Coordinate with Front Office, Operations, IT and other internal partners to ensure current and new processes are streamlined seamlessly
- Responsible for full manual BS consolidation of high profile Barclay's investment in subsidiaries
- Assist with the management of four analysts within group
- Act as a critical point of contact on high profile projects to ensure all information required to stakeholders, including auditors and regulators, is provided in a timely and orderly fashion
- Ensure the maintenance of a strong internal control environment
- Process and control development, identification of improvements through documentation and analysis of current procedures
- Educate members of group/team on various technical accounting concepts applicable to business objectives
Team Structure:
- SCPM Product Control is currently comprised of 16 people. The team is split into a number of functions: Protium Assets, Helix, SCPG, Illiquid Cash, RF Legacy, PMTG and Strategic Bank.
- This team is responsible for managing a number of legacy highly illiquid and technically demanding products from a finance perspective. Many of the positions/structures are bespoke and individual in nature, therefore requiring a detailed level of involvement and understanding from all team members.
- The SCPM front office is situated both in London and New York. Due to the nature of the products, SCPM Product Control is heavily involved with the front office on a daily basis.
