Planning
- Full responsibility for all aspects of planning from resourcing to managing partners to and Vantage to client. This includes (the following is not a comprehensive list):
- Perform the planning of the audit on larger clients and highlight key risk areas for manager attention. Delegate work to other seniors where applicable.
- Consider trends expect to see and communicate these to the rest of the team to assist in analytical procedures. Ensure preliminary analytical review addresses this. Ascertain relevant ratios to be calculated and communicate these to rest of the team and ensure they are included within review.
- In light of the above produce a work programme for the assignment tailored to the risks associated with the client
- Draft the budget and assign audit areas to team members (both assistants and other seniors) so as to manage the audit risks and develop the team members.
- Supervise and aid in the production of the Client Audit Plan to detail the above strategy to the client. Be involved in the delivery of the CAP to the client alongside the manager.
- Prepare agenda for team meeting and communicate the strategy to the other members of the team.
- Ensure team member’s objectives have been set.
- Prepare summary highlighting main issues noted in the planning and key risk areas, taking into account all Group companies.
- Ensure all Manager and Partner review points noted and cleared.
Controlling the Assignment
- Allocates work to team members and supervise progress of the audit
- Completes high risk areas of the assignment
- Provides on job training to assistants and seniors
- Reviews the work of assistants and provide informal feedback throughout the fieldwork stage.
- Act as a point of contact for both manager and client, ensuring both are kept fully informed of any issues arising and the progress of the audit.
- Review actual to budgeted time and inform manager of any issues immediately
- Build strong working relationships with the client, ensuring any problems or requests are dealt with promptly
- Be aware of developments concerning clients affairs and actively look for opportunities to provide additional services
Completion
- Completion of Financial Statements and closedown of audit files
- Ensure standards and procedures maintained by whole team and complete audit file presented with review points cleared
- Draft audit committee report or other feedback to management and take a role in its delivery.
Managing Portfolio of small clients
- Manage a portfolio of small clients, ensuring timely communication with the client of assignment scope, audit timetables, fees and engagement terms
- Support Managers and Senior Managers on larger complex audit and special assignments such as due diligence and investigation
- Deploy audit seniors and assistants on assignments based on their skills, knowledge and development needs.
- Review audit/assignment file during fieldwork stage and on completion, raising notes and resolving issues on a timely basis
- Report to Partner key findings from the audit work
- Control financial aspects including budgeting, billing and recovery
- Develop motivate and appraise audit seniors and assistants
- Training of audit staff – both on the job and formal courses
- Look for opportunities to offer additional services to existing clients and convert opportunities for new clients. Assist in proposal preparation.
- Build client relationships throughout the year and seek networking opportunities with targets and referrers of work.
Administration
- Keep technically up to date
- Ensure awareness of firms specialist services and publications
- Assist in student recruitment, training and marketing activities as required
- To maintain time records and appraisal records.
- Complete assignment reviews within two weeks of the end of engagement and ensure partner sign off (for both own and other members of the team).
Personal Specification
- ACA, CA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, Irish Institute or international equivalent
- Good academic background
- Previous experience with a Big 4 Firm would be preferred
- The role will require candidates to be highly motivated, commercially aware and able to thrive in a pressurised environment. It is essential that candidates be technically up to date in both UK GAAP and IFRS, and possess strong communication and team working skills.
- Used to working on large assignments
- Experience in Banking area would be advantageous:
- Knowledge of IAS 39 and IFRS 7 is highly desirable
- Able to demonstrate initiative and find solutions to problems which may not have been encountered before
