Batch Development Manager
This role relates to the main Equity Risk Management systems used by UBS. These systems are used globally and the team is structured accordingly.
A program of transformation and re-engineering is underway ensuring the system can scale to meet demands of the derivatives business.
The successful candidate will work as the Global Batch Development Lead within the Equity Derivatives IT department managing current ( on-going ) initiatives as well as contributing to the core engineering of the next generation of our batch execution, delivery and management systems. Requirement gathering, specifications and analysis of data for logistics functions will be an additional primary responsibility.
A good appreciation of when to escalate issues is important. People and Vendor management skills are a must as an existing project requires both.
The successful candidate will:
- Work on core engineering projects within batch to increase efficiency, build out capacity and enhance robustness.
- Contribute to the overall design of the system
- Work with Logistics clients to specify new data requirements
- Must be able to accurately and pragmatically estimate development effort required for specific objectives.
- Provide second/third level support to the applications global user community including assisting dedicated support staff and liaising with the members of other development teams directly.
Individuals must be able to understand the requirements as a customer describes them and translate them into the specific technical specification. This often requires a willingness to get involved with a variety of technologies and business areas.
Individuals must be self-starting, possess verbal and written communication skills and be customer service orientated. Excellent analytical skills are essential. An understanding of an enterprise batch environment is critical.
Specific Responsibilities
- Promote the overall stability of the system.
- Develop a broad knowledge and understanding of technology and operating environment in order to identify and prioritize issues and their solutions as well as identifying ways to improve the supportability of products.
- Providing trouble-shooting assistance and solutions for production problems that are cross functional in nature.
- Lead a global team of development and support analysts
- Periodic Responsibilities (performed as needed)
- Co-ordinating system releases
- Participate in the implementation of new products and enhancements to the UBS software.
- Create and maintain applications documentation for training, cross-training, troubleshooting and UBS infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in enterprise batch environment
- 3+ years experience in IT related degree ( CompSci / Engineering )
- 3+ years experience leading a batch ( data/feed ) delivery team
- 3+ years experience with Autosys
- 3+ years experience in Development with Perl, Java ( J2EE / J2SE ) , shell scripting
- 3+ years experience building global, Java-based applications
- 3+ years experience in SQL ( Oracle / Sybase preferred )
- 3+ years experience with of Unix ( Solaris, Linux preferred )
Preferred Qualifications:
- Web development experience (Tomcat, Jetty )
- Experience with version control systems (esp. subversion)
- Derivs knowledge – Equities/ Exotics / Structured products / Corporate Actions / Market Data
- Excellent communication skills in English both spoken and written are essential.
- Experience with ( and knowledge of the issues associated with ) working in global teams
- It will be highly advantageous for the candidate to have a reasonable knowledge and experience of Equity Derivatives trading/risk management from both a business and technology perspective
