T.W. Ponessa Associates Counseling Services, Inc. provides a variety of counseling services including: outpatient services, drug and alcohol services, specialized sexual offender services and Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS). Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services are intensive, in-home services which are supportive, time limited, goal directed interventions focused on children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with serious emotional disturbance. The treatment team consists of a behavioral specialist, mobile therapist and a therapeutic support staff.   Currently there are job opportunities available in the BHRS program.

 

THERAPEUTIC STAFF SUPPORT:

The Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) is a Bachelor’s level individual with training and experience in crisis intervention and experience within the CASSP system. The role of the TSS is to provide therapeutic support to the child or adolescent in specific areas of social, behavioral, and emotional concern, in addition to the needs that have been identified by the child/youth and family and addressed in the treatment plan. The TSS worker provides support to the child that facilitates the growth and development of the child and the development of the therapeutic support skills in parents, family members, educators and others to ensure that such support is maintained for the child as a professional interventions are decreased and terminated.

These interventions include but are not limited to:

·         Assisting the parents or other responsible adults in appropriate interventions to problematic behaviors.

·         Specific interventions to assist the child in developing age appropriate daily living skills.

·         Assisting the family in providing structure and limits for the child.

·         Providing recreational and socialization opportunities.

·         Assistance in implementing a Behavioral implementation plan for the child.

·         At times, when it is deemed appropriate by the treatment team, the TSS will assist children with behavioral and other mental health issues within the classroom.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related Human Services field or a Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with a minimum of one year experience working with children in the child and adolescent service system program (CASSP).

The Therapeutic Support Staff must also complete a criminal record check through the Pennsylvania State Police, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and a FBI Clearance.

 

 

MOBILE THERAPIST:

 

The Mobile Therapist is a Master’s level professional who will provide intensive therapy to the child and the child’s family in the home or in the community. The therapy is child-centered and family focused, requiring the participation of all family members. The therapist may be responsible for developing a comprehensive treatment plan to be implemented by the family and Therapeutic Staff Support.

 

BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST CONSULTANT:

 

The Behavior Specialist Consultant is a Master’s level professional with specialized training in behavioral modification and treatment plan development.  The behavioral specialist consultant identifies behavioral goals and intervention techniques, and recommends non-aversive behavioral change methods.  Their involvement may be limited to the first two to four months of treatment.  Their services may be discontinued after the initial behavioral plan has been established and consistent adherence has been demonstrated.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Applicants must have a mental health graduate degree and at least one year experience in a CASSP system.

The Behavior Specialist Consultant and Mobile Therapist must also complete a criminal record check through the Pennsylvania State Police, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and a FBI clearance.
