Benefits Manager
Rio Tinto People and Organization Support is looking for an experienced Benefits Manager - US to join their team in Salt Lake City, UT.
The Benefits Manager will have overall responsibility for management, compliance, and administration of the U.S. Benefit plans sponsored by Rio Tinto. These plans include medical (indemnity, PPO, HMO, CDHP and HDHP), prescription drug, dental, life insurance, ADD, dependent life insurance, long-term disability, vision, employee assistance program, health care savings account / flexible spending accounts and all retirement plans including defined benefit and defined contribution plans. In addition, the incumbent will also participate in global projects relating to the subject area as appropriate. Finally, they will have subject matter expertise in the benefits area in the USA and be the main point of contact for (People Organization Support) POS, the US HR Leaders group, North America Compliance and Business Unit HR, ensuring that all enquiries are answered and assistance is provided to define and resolve issues.
The Benefits Manager will be expected to create effective, harmonious work relationships among the team and with key stakeholders to support the design of benefit plans and the development of policy, to support organisation performance and growth. Attention to detail, a service oriented work ethic and a comprehensive knowledge of the provision of benefits, trends and competitive landscape for benefits programs in the USA is critical.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and support the Benefits team in all aspects of its operations. Manage insurance carriers and service providers in order to optimize efficiency, cost and lead time delivery.
- Oversee the management of work directed to and services provided by the Company's benefits team and vendors.
- Proactively lead the strategy for delivery of Benefits in US and lead the implementation of changes as required.
- Lead and participate in Benefits projects from time to time.
- Provide input into and recommendations for consideration by the Global Benefits Practice and Manager, Global Remuneration and Benefits - US, People and Organisation Support in relation to the future design and delivery of benefits in the US.
- Provide advice in order that the Company is able to make informed decisions in relation to the application of current policies, the formulation of future policies and the impact of changes in legislation.
- Participate in projects and forums led through the Global Practice and/or People and Organisation Support.
- Work with fiduciary bodies to set the strategic direction of the retirement benefit programmes.
- Establish contacts with all Rio Tinto BU's in US in order to understand their context, needs, priorities and develop appropriate solution and good relationship. Participate in the client council meeting in order to review process, priorities and KPI.
Qualifications:
- This role requires a bachelors degree, preferably in a business discipline or Human Resources.
- Post graduate qualifications highly preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years pertinent experience in a large organization and management responsibilities over a group of employees.
- CEBS or CBP preferred.
- Ongoing training to maintain currency of knowledge with pension law and benefits best practice.
- Strong technical competencies in pension and benefits required.
- Supporting competencies in leadership, law, or accounting are beneficial.
- A basic/comprehensive understanding of the standard Microsoft packages: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
