Job Description CCIB in Cambridge is looking for a Lab Tech to assist anywhere from 24 hours to 40 hours per week. Job Title: Research Automation Lab Technician I Department: CCIB Std Hrs/Wk: 40.00 Shift: Mon.-Fri. 8:00am-4:30pm (flexible hours- may require work some Saturdays) Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Temporary GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Research Lab Technician II is a full-time position that functions independently with minimal supervision to assist Senior Laboratory personnel in the MGH Automation Group facility. Primary responsibility is to carry out laboratory work pertaining to the Core services offered including but not limited to 96-well plasmid DNA preparations, mouse tail genotyping, and bacterial colony picking. There are a number of post-doctoral researchers at the main hospital with whom we collaborate on various custom projects as well. The Automation Group is part of the DNA Core located in Central Square, away from the main hospital. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operation and maintenance of several forms of laboratory robotics including liquid handlers, plate readers and colony pickers. Standard benchwork including PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid and genomic DNA preparation, protein purification, cloning, DNA quantification, DNA sequencing analysis Prepares laboratory reagents and buffers. Maintains and orders supplies. Maintains laboratory notebook. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES: The ideal candidate must have a strong background in general molecular biology techniques and any experience with laboratory automation and software manipulation is preferred. This is a high-throughput facility with multiple projects occurring simultaneously making organization, time management, a strong aptitude for learning and an ability to work well independently as well as in a team is absolutely essential. Troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve technical problems, in addition to the ability to interpret acceptability of data results, is required. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: BS in Biology or related life science EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 1 year directly related experience
