Position Status: On-Call

 

Office Location: Santa Barbara

 

Physical Job Location: Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, and Kern counties.

 

Job Description:

The Santa Barbara office is seeking both entry-level and experienced biologists (technicians) to assist senior biologists in conducting biological field surveys and monitoring of botanical and/or wildlife species. Travel throughout Southern California would be necessary, focusing on Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, and Kern counties. This position is on an as needed basis.

 

Accountabilities:

·       Participate in pre-development habitat assessments and species surveys

·       Monitor construction crews to assure compliance with biological requirements.

·       Effectively walk and survey up to 60 acres per day.

·       Complete field survey forms daily.

·       Communicate effectively with on-site personnel to complete tasks.

·       Assist in technical report writing.

 

Knowledge:

·       Required: Degree in biology, wildlife management, botany or related field.

·       Required: 1-3 years experience in biological monitoring on construction projects, surveying, sampling and data collection.

·       Required: Knowledge and experience with identification and habitat assessment of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles of Southern California.

·       Required : Familiarity with Southern California vegetation communities and flora particularly of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo and Kern counties

·       Required: Flexible schedule in order to fulfill on-call duties and accommodate travel.

·       Required: Familiarity with the flora and fauna of Southern California including coastal, upland, and/or desert environments.
