Hays Healthcare have exciting job opportunities for a highly experienced Biomedical Scientists Band 6 to be involved in the UK Biobank project, a large long-term research study in the UK to determine the causes of complex diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease based in Stockport.

UK Biobank will perform a large-scale biomarker project, involving the analysis of urine, serum, plasma and red cells from the entire UK Biobank cohort over approximately 18 months.

The Biomedical Scientists will work as Biomarker Scientists in a dedicated team. The successful candidate will have experience of training and supervising in a laboratory setting.
You will ensure the smooth day-to-day running of analysis platforms, from within the laboratory, including ensuring the validity and quality of results and troubleshooting equipment by your extensive knowledge of biochemical and molecular biology.

It is essential for the Biomarker to have an extensive experience of working in a Clinical Biochemistry/Chemical Pathology laboratory using high throughput biochemistry and immunoassay analysers, have confidence performing routine and specialised clinical biochemistry tests, authorising or validating clinical biochemistry and haematology results, good knowledge of COSHH regulations and risk assessments, proven awareness of GCP/GLP regulations. Experience using haematology/coagulation analysers would be an advantage.

A scientific degree recognised by the IBMS is required, as well as BMS or MLSO grade qualifications, and HCPC registration.

This successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in the 24/7 shift-working pattern.
