Biostatistician III 301482 (NCI) (Job Number:301482) Description: THIS IS AN AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA) FUNDED POSITION. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Cancer Human Biobank (caHUB) program managed by the NCI Office of Biospecimen and Biorepository Research (OBBR) is developing a set of research and biobanking projects that are determining the link between biospecimen quality and research variables. JOB DESCRIPTION The Biostatistician III will report to the Director of Scientific Programs for SAIC-Frederick in support of the Office of Biorepositories and Biospecimen Research (OBBR). Work within a SAIC-F team partnering with staff in OBBR to create novel, experimental approaches for addressing fundamental questions in cancer using unique, physical-based measurement high content screening of human biospecimens. The primary responsibility of the individual will be to apply statistical expertise to biospecimen research. Collaborate with science teams to develop experimental models and scientific designs, help to collate, summarize and analyze and interpret data developed from these experiments. Responsible for: 1) providing a statistical model for the majority of caHUB experiments, 2) monitoring changes in experimental design as operations and data collection progresses and their impact to the statistical model, 3) assist in the development of Statements of Work for the execution of screening assays, 3) review and analyze data submissions by SAIC-F subcontractors involved in the effort, and 4) support the reporting of biostatistical analyses to OBBR scientific leadership. In addition, will provide professional-level, subject matter expertise in their field to a broader team developing bioinformatics and medical informatics software solutions. Qualifications: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college or university in biostatistics or related field or six (6) years of related experience required. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. * In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years experience in experimental design and data analysis. * Experience to include developing and executing novel experimental designs addressing fundamental questions in normal or tumor cell biology or serving as the biostatistician in design and analysis. * Experienced in modeling experiments which may lead to the discovery of proteomic and genomic signatures as well as statistically sound experiments where single gene or protein expression is used as the assay. * Expertise in statistics and knowledge of biostatistics * Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with all levels of scientific personnel and administrative staff through written and oral presentations. * Success in previous positions with evidence of both independent thought and leadership. * Experience working in a highly integrated, multi-disciplinary environment. * This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * A Ph.D. in biostatistics and post-doctoral experience desired. * Experience in 1) clinical trial design and analysis, and/or epidemiological studies, statistical principles and 2) developing novel statistical or analytical algorithms with applications within the life sciences, 3) developing software and data systems to support the statistical analysis of life sciences or omics data, and/or 4) managing software or data systems that are subject to regulatory requirements in the biomedical domain, including those that are subject to 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, FISMA, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and OMB Memorandum M-06-16. * Ability to practice and implement methods as needed to determine sample size for various analyses. * Knowledge of medical/biological terminology and experimental designs as related to sample selection and size an asset.
