Responsible for servicing accounts in an assigned territory. Provides technical advice and account information to underwriting business partners for risk assessment and analysis. Monitors work assignments for staff in assigned territory, provides input to Regional Manager on staff performance and development, and acts as Risk Control Boiler Machinery liaison to local business partners. May assume regional responsibilities in the absence of the Regional Director, or on technically complex accounts PRIMARY DUTIES: .Assist staff conduct claims occurrence investigations by determining the objects involved, elements of the accident, cause of loss, scope and cost of damage, preventive measures and report findings to appropriate member(s) of Boiler Machinery staff and insured so that an informed decision can be made to mitigate the loss. Manage work assignments in assigned territory. Act as a resource, when needed, for all non-administrative matters, or for all matters when delegated by Regional Director. Work with staff to determine individual productivity goals and ensure they are met. Conduct applicant surveys, loss controls surveys, claim investigations, and jurisdictional inspections at insured locations. Conduct co-survey's with field consultants for technical training and determine developmental areas. Utilize specialist resources for occupancy and object training. Provide input to Regional Director on staff performance and development. Conduct survey/file reviews as deemed necessary, or as requested by the Regional Manager. Ensure field engineers understand, and comply with the Risk Control Boiler Machinery Safety Program. Serve as technical resource for Claim Representatives and Account Executives. Provide guidance on the selection of field consultants and/or specialists to be used in special risk control surveys and claim investigations. Maintain current knowledge of jurisdictional rules and regulations within assigned territory. Represent the company at all jurisdictional meetings and ensure field consultants and Regional Director understand current and developing jurisdictional rules and regulations. OTHER: Assure the quality of the field engineering role in field and home office CURE's. Attend CURE meetings when requested by underwriting or claims. May assist Account Executives, Marketing Executives, and Regional Directors in marketing presentations when requested. At the discretion of the Regional Director, assumes some management responsibilities. Manages work assignments in assigned territory. Business Knowledge: Understands Boiler and Machinery insurance products, services and risk evaluation practices. Knows and understands the business plan for the region Fully understands Risk Control Boiler Machinery performance standards, policies and procedures as well as managerial policies and procedures for Travelers Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in Boiler and Machinery exposures. Strong working knowledge of relevant Risk Control Boiler Machinery computer systems applications including the Boiler Machinery workstation, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Folio, etc Maintains appropriate professional designations (i.e. National Board commission and any required jurisdictional commissions) Analytical Skills: Ability to identify and deal effectively with staff performance issues Territory management skills Communication: Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills When required is able to make complex technical information clear to audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge Ability to provide timely and constructive feedback to unit members on an on-going basis Ability to influence internal business partners and customers to take action on Risk Control issues Listens effectively Takes the initiative to keep unit staff, business partners, and Risk Control Boiler Machinery field managers/staff informed of emerging account / class of business issues and trends related to the business Customer Service: Helps ensure that service delivered by the unit meets or exceeds internal and external customer expectations Champions and builds strong credibility of the field staff with internal and external customers and business partners by ensuring that unit members practice teamwork, demonstrate considerable technical expertise, and consistently deliver quality service Coaching / Staff Development: Develops with his/her staff an annual individual developmental plan for each member of the unit Provide coaching / mentoring to the LCE's to help them achieve their developmental areas. Provides coaching to field staff when requested Coordinates developmental planning for the unit's RSC program Resource Management: Manages work flow to the unit members to ensure that right technical resource is brought to bear on the customer's need and balances work load to help ensure consistent success in meeting Risk Control Boiler Machinery performance standards Works with Regional Directors to manage the budget and stay within the annual business plan When practical, identifies local field staff who may be able to provide required level of service to customers / business partners in lieu of a specialist Travelers is an equal opportunity employer.
